.45 century/ .72 metric century

did a 45 mile ride saturday and took some pics.
yield sign is on clear creek trail in wheat ridge, all others are in golden.

i'm right close to 300 pounds and consider 45 a lot of miles- on an mtb.

just flat repair stuff, sweatshirt, extra water, small digicam. i subsisted on power bars with protein.

got rained on hard and loved it. got lost, too, using the handlebar-mounted gps. hmpf. the mileage was probably correct- it sure felt like it!

my knees are rough, so no speed. used middle ring and gears 3-6 mostly. lotta work, pumpin' fat around!

oh, i get it- why have bags on an mtb? it's my transportation, no other bike or car, and i don't like the idea of wearing a backpack on a bike- i sweat too much.

oh no, my thought was "loaded panniers makes your 45 miles even more impressive".

Don't sell yourself short, that's a significant ride.

I'm less than 170 lbs, and I still consider 45 a lot of miles ... for now. Well done!

the knee problems stemmed mostly from a 4 year old pair of orthotic shoes with the heels run way down on the outside edges. i got new sneakers a couple of weeks ago from the v.a. along with different inserts. i really owe them a lot. they don't see too many improvements at the hospital. the docs say it will take upwards of 2 months to get my (body) frame back into alignment. meanwhile, i can feel a difference, both in re-alignment pain and easier movement of the knees. rah, rah!

wanna laugh? i had only planned to do a .1 century (snort!), but i felt so good i kept going. i got really tired at the end and it was a looong way home, so caught a city bus and dozed. gonna shoot for a .5 century. that sounds almost respectable. will have to be on the road earlier.

thanks for the encouragement, folks! i'll try to pay it forward by monitoring the c/a category and waving pom-poms with each person's improvements.

will take more pics, too.

The "yield to" sign looks confusing - I believe they are trying to say that everyone yields to everyone else? I picture a cyclist, hiker and horse at a four way stop all frozen in a yielding state.

The "rock paper scissors" of yield signs.
