ICLIC pedal busted... any recourse?
 

Last October, I bought a pair of Iclic pedals for my road bike and the last ride, the right pedal split in half. I bought them new off of ebay and was wondering, for any of you ebay folks out there that buy or sell, is there any recourse? I had them for only 8 months and the bike shop said they shouldnt have broken that easy.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Usually, with eBay purchases you have to contact the manufacturer and see if they'll provide warranty coverage. Some sellers will provide warranty service, but in my experience most will tell you to go directly to the manufacturer.

If you seller is an authorized Time dealer, then chances are good that you will have some type of warranty coverage. However, if your seller was an individual or off shore seller, then most likely you are out of luck.

I sent an email to the guy I got them from.

Man, that is really going to suck if I cannot get them replaced. They were very expensive and only to last 8 months.

Just a thought? Not what you were asking, but thought I'd throw it out for you? I am really liking my 'Crank Brothers' pedals~! 18 months old, and still feel brand new. Plus, you can buy 'rebuild kits' for them for under $15 bucks if they start to get sloppy. I am hoping these will be the last pedals I buy.

Prior to getting these, I went through like 3 different $100 buck sets of pedals. Doesn't help right here, but in case you'll be shopping for new pedals down the road?

peter: Can you provide a link to the ones you got? I did a quick search online and found a lot. The small ones look smaller then the spds I have which might mean a flair up with hot foot.

Get the speed play in either the cro mo or stainless depending on your budget...you won't be disappointed

Dont let the small size of the pedal fool you, the clip system is much larger and that's what distributes the load over your foot...once I dialed in the placement of the cleats, it has been perfectly comfortable and the float is great.

Just remember that many shoes designed for 3-bolt road cleats won't accept 2-bolt mountain bike cleats. And that most Crank Brothers require quite a bit (15- or 20-degrees) of heel twist in order to get the pedal to release. I used Crank Brothers EggBeater and Candy pedals... until I started riding off-road. The additional heel twist made it difficult for me to get them to release before I fell over.

I sold off 3-4 sets of Crank Brothers pedals and now have Shimano SPD-M520 pedals on most of my bikes.

See your other thread for the CB website. I bought a pair of "2011 Mallet II" with needle bearings... (color silver) || The newest version out is different, looks like you must go to the Mallet III version now to get needle bearings (recommended).

I roll on mallets ( i think the C version) and Love them. i got them for $49 bucks at the LBS.

Sadly any of the odd-ball versions like the "C" is a made for vendor version - usually the quality of the level I pedals, with possible color changes.

ouch, didn't want to hear that. Given i still love these things and will purchase another if these fail. I may spring for the non oddball versions though.

Nashbar and some other big retailers may still have the candy "C" being made specifically for them but they are not odd ball models. The Candy "C" "SE" and "SL" models are just the older versions of the newer "1" '2" "3" models. They updated the model line 3-4 years ago and changed the names. I think the "C' version became the "3", "SE" became the "2" and "SL" became "1".

Even though the bearings and platform shapes were updated, the retention system stayed the same so there's no need to fear getting a newer set of the candy pedals. If you still don't want to take a chance there's plenty of people still selling NOS of the older versions.

Cool - thanks for the info, I love learning new stuff, and the CB website never talks about older stuff, even my 2010 Mallet II pedals - you can't find info about them on the website today - the one thing I don't like about CB, with them, it's like they never made the older stuff :-(
