bike seat recommendations

wondering if any heavy riders in here would from experience know a comfortable seat/saddle for a rider 240+ lbs the so called hyper soft seat on my raleigh is a bit painful to ride on and wore out pretty quickly hoping you know of a few that are less than 50 bucks as my budgets a bit tight after doing a full tune up of the bike and replacement of the entire braking system (old plastic parts got too brittle)

I currently weigh 265 and comfortably ride my old Brooks B-17. I have been using them for many years. They do have to be broken in. I mount mine, pull the seat and seat post and put the seat in a bucket of water overnight. Remount the seat and seat post and ride it wet for at least an hour. It will be shaped to your butt very nicely. Then you have to go with the oil softening routine.

There are probably a dozen or more recent (within the last 12 months) threads regarding saddle recommendations. I'm not saying this to scold you for not searching - just to let you know there's a good resource here at your fingertips.

No need to apologize. Like I said, I was just pointing out a resource. Though if it isn't working properly it doesn't do you any good. Perhaps BF should be apologizing to you.

Not sure if you can get a good view of the saddle on my tandem but I picked it up at Performance store for $44 on sale. It's a Terry Fly wannabe. Pretty comfy but longevity would be the question since I've only done 200 or so miles on it (month old)

I know Nashbar had the Terry fly with cromo rails for $64 about a month back. If they are still on sale that's a good price as the ti model ( on my roadie) is about $125 now.

I'm at about 260 right now.

I have the Nashbar TFX Men's Saddle (for $30). I am very happy with it. My longest ride was 50 miles and it was still comfortable. I'm 6-1 and 235. I was closer to 250 when I got it.

Yes. You don't want a big "couch cushion" saddle. On long rides they compress and will press up into your t'aint, and irritate the nerves there. Everybody is built different, but it seems that the overwhelming majority of people that ride a lot (distances and times) tend to go for a minimally/non-padded saddle. Let your sit bones get used to being placed on a good saddle, and you will be glad.

I bought a Bell Dart from Walmart for under $20 for use as a rainy-day saddle, and ended up liking it. It's not my favorite saddle, but it's very good for a cheapy. It has a pretty thin padding on it, and a decent-enough vinyl cover.

It's above your price stipulation, but I seriously can't recommend a Brooks B-17 enough. Best saddle I've ever tried. In my opinion the #1 place to spend money on a bike is the saddle; without a nice saddle, riding is going to be miserable.
