20 Months Later, uncomfortable seat revisited

When I bought a new Trek 2.3 roadie, I had to immediately buy a new saddle. The OEM seat, small and hard, was beyond painful. No way I could ride more than a couple of miles on it. The replacement felt great from the first mile and I was soon riding 30+ mile rides.

Fast forward 20 months, ~4,500 miles, and almost 50 lbs of weight lost. I'm now spending most of my time in the drops and have had to adjust my fit a couple of times along the way. I've begun to notice a touch of soft tissue pressure, despite adjustments, on my trusty replacement seat.

Today, after a 28 mile group ride, I put the OEM saddle back on and went for a 10 mile test. Much to my surprise the OEM is now more comfortable than the replacement. It feels like it's contacting my sit bones only. The soft tissue pressure is gone.

I disliked the OEM seat so much I named it Prison Sex. So I now apologize to Trek for any discouraging comments and openly admit I like P.S.

Anybody else have success with a saddle you previously couldn't ride on?

I took my stock Trek seat off of my Madone. It was a miserable ride with that seat. I put a Terry Butterfly on the Madone and put the Trek seat on my hybrid. I was going to only temporarily have Trek seat on the hybrid until I got another Butterfly but it turns out that I like the Trek seat just fine on the hybrid after I rode with it for a week or two. I now can ride 20 miles on that seat sans bike shorts. And this is a seat everyone seems to gripe about. Now I have an unused extra Terry Butterfly that I have never bothered to put on the bike.

I'm trying this same experiment with the stock saddle that came on my LeTour. I hated it at first but now I wonder...

On my Crux I test rode it at two different stores and at the first one I hated the stock saddle. I mean It hurt me to ride 3 blocks on it. At the second store with a slightly different set of adjustments I was able to ride comfortable on it and even liked the saddle enough that when I bought it I still use it.

Small differences can make a big difference with a saddle so loosing weight, becoming more flexible and all those little perks that come with riding more can definitely change how you feel about your saddle.
