After you log in look about half way down on the right side. Below "You should follow" is the Clyde icon, click on that to go to the Clyde page.....

It takes you to this page.

Tonight's training ride from the shop, with the Bumble Bs:

https://app.strava.com/rides/14779977

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/203436038

Hellacious wind. At the start of the ride, the Weather Service reported it at steady WNW, 23 mph. The wind shattered the group at the turn and the ride back was more or less solo, at least as far as working together was concerned. I'd planned to do the 6-mile add-on hilly loop like we did Tuesday night, but I was gassed by the time we got to the turnoff.

Thanks, Mark.

After chasing for almost 10 miles, I finally caught up with the ride leader about 3 miles from the finish. I told him the wind had just about killed me, and he said, "looks like you recovered well." I told him not to let my having caught him fool him - that at that point I was pretty much just an empty shell. Which is why I opted out of the hilly add-on. If a hill had jumped up in front of me then, I would have folded like a cheap card table.

It helped that the only parts of the ride that were almost dead into the wind were the westbound sections at the top of the loop.

I think side wind is worse than head wind... you get it bad both ways. At least with a tail wind you can crank it up.

Bah, the first timer got lost on the way to the start so it was me and all those billy goats. I was a first timer to the village though, but I'm not even in their club so I said go ahead and drop away, I'll make it. We did meet a nice fella half way up that seemed to appreciate my more methodical pace so we stuck together from the shack to the village.

Btw, I had no idea there was that much climbing to the village. That last hill was interminable. Endless.

Ironically, I changed out my chainrings yesterday and put the compact set on (I previously had mid-compact) and had to move the FD. I spent about an hour fiddling with it yesterday and thought I had it nailed but I had nothing but trouble today. Damn thing wouldn't shift to the large ring unless I put the chain on the tiny cogs, and then it would jam shifting to the small chainring. Fooey. I think I got it dialed in while riding with a couple well timed pauses in the road but can I just tell you what makes it harder to keep up with the Billy Goat Brigade? Stopping to do maintenance. Ugh.

As far as I know, those guys are out doing ski lift repeats. One of the riders brought the wrong bike (a single speed) but naturally he beat us all to the shack.

That is more than likely the section you hit at mile 15 on GRR. It kicks back up for about 3 miles. About the same as the first 8 to the shack so after having miles in you legs, it's tough. Many riders turn around there after saying "uncle".. that is why I turn back at that point when I ride with Gina. Peacock Saddle is right before it kicks up again.

BTW, the section you mention is cool because it will definitely slow down many riders. If you look at Strava stats, lots of guys are fast to the shack but their numbers drop big time after hitting GRR. That's the beauty of doing a climbing century like the Bear or Breathless Agony. Keeping a consistent pace makes for a good time on those rides.

Slowly building up for my first century ride in September, so Saturday I needed to get in 45 miles. Beautiful Saturday morning ride along the portage River with a short break at the LBS in Elmore for a bottle of water and a granola bar. Nice ride - felt great afterwards.

Next weekend I shoot for 50!

I was getting a bit discouraged and really thought I was at a plateau until I compared two rides on the same route just about a month apart. The improvement was a pleasant surprise. Dropped 2 1/2 minutes off my time. Average MPH up about 4mph. The best part was the small 1.2 mile 2.5% hill segment time dropped by almost 2 minutes and up 4mph as well.

my garmin does the exact same thing, and I have no clue why? I assumed it was because I'm rapidly descending some steep hills, but I really don't know why. It accurately records the speed shown on the graphs on the right side of the page, but the actual max mph shown on the left side is just weird, always in the thousands.

Sunday's ride: https://app.strava.com/rides/15273859

This was an organized club ride on the northwest side of Indy. They advertised a 30 mile loop as one of the options, so I figured riding the 12.5 miles from home to the start (and back) would give me a nice 55 mile day. But they shorted us a bit, as the loop turned out closer to 27. Still, a great ride altogether. I met a few new folks and saw some familiar faces, and had a chance to do a little more climbing than I normally do.

Here's a family ride from last weekend. Our son-in-law and his father, and our two grandkids joined my wife and I (who are 60) for a short ride in the park. It was in Denali Natl Park. Just 36 miles or so, but it was 3,000 feet of climbing so it was a good workout. Some short spots had 20mph headwinds and others had 20mph tailwinds. At one point a caribou trotted directly past me on the road (it's a dirt road). The same caribou ran right alongside my wife for 50 yards or so. She thought that was great. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/205224662

Tonight's training ride from the shop had fewer riders than usual, as some rain had just passed through the area and apparently some folks weren't convinced it was over. Consequently, they only did two groups and those of us who usually ride with the third group had to struggle along with the second. One of my club-mates who's also a Bumble B rode with me near the back of the pack, not really trying to hang on, but occasionally catching up at traffic stops and those scattered places where their pace dropped below 20 mph. Even so, with the 5-mile hilly add-on at the end we still managed an 18.5 mph average for the ride:

https://app.strava.com/activities/15796823

The Garmin showed one 5-mile segment as clocking in at 14:07, a number I don't think I have never seen on it before. It was on the return leg, with a little bit of tailwind and my pal and I sharing the pulling, along with a couple on a tandem.
