Chamois for a big guy...fit?
Folks, I have an odd topic for you to respond to. First, I'm a big guy (5'8" - 260 lb.) and wear both bibs and regular bike shorts. The problem is no matter which bike shorts I try/own it seems that none of the chamois's (not sure what the plural form of "chamois" is) seem to come up high/far enough on my butt. They all seem to hit about half way up my (for lack of a better word) crack. I "think" I'm sitting on the chamois on my seat but in all honesty, I'm not sure. I've always noticed this, but what prompted me to ask the question on here is when I noticed my father in law's (who is built more like a typical biker) chamois comes way up high on his rear end and when he rides you can actually see the chamois. Anybody else experience this? Any ideas why this is?

Have you thought of turning the pants around? (that's a joke)
I don't know about you, but I contact the seat forward of my "crack".
Don't need a chamois that goes to the top.
Are you sitting straight up on some kind of comfort bike with a tractor seat?

Yeah, lol, I checked to make sure I was wearing them in the right direction. Yes, I too sit on the seat forward of my crack but it seems to be a fine line between if the chamois comes high enough up for me to sit on versus just sitting directly on the seat without chamois. I ride a Felt Z85....no tractor seat lol.

I'm a bit bigger than you at 6'3, 260 pounds. I wear bibs exclusively. Hincapie, Castelli, Pactimo, Nemesis, and others. Never any problems. What shorts do you have?
Plus, the chamois isn't supposed to go all the way up your crack. It's only supposed to cover the saddle area.

Have you beat at 6`1" and 387. I use both bibs and regular shorts from aerotechdesigns.com and they work well on my Fuji, tarmac and pinarello. Chamois should just cover the seat area. I have a slightly wider saddle on my bikes. One of those specialized ones. :-)

I have no idea why your FIL's chamois goes up so high in the back. None of mine do, but then that's not where my body contacts the saddle, which is the point of the chamois in the first place. Are you finding yours uncomfortable in some way, or are you just wondering why yours are different from his?
