Nerys, what size pants do you wear? I ask because I have a few size 48-54 (and maybe even 56) wool blend slacks and other pants that are about to go to goodwill. 20 neck and 36/37 arm button up shirts too. Hell, even a nice ralph lauren suit, I think the pants are a 56 and the jacket is a 56 or 58.

I'd send them to you, but you have to promise not to wear them long.

If Nerys won't take them, you've described my sizes well. I grew a couple of inches from surgery and now my clothes are too short.

Either and both of you are welcome to them. I'll try to get some pictures and detail put together for you two - but I'd much rather them go to someone I know and want to help out than to Goodwill.

yep I am a week bigger than that. (58 roughly depending on brand) most 60's are close enough with a belt (little lose) most 56's do NOT fit.

Hopefully that will change rapidly. I have plenty of pants (ebay addict) and you can't buy large sweats usually in the stores. SOMETIMES walmart gets sweats that fit me but I get them so much cheaper online :-)

I HATE hills. but they are good for me right? so I will do them. I have been conjuring rocket motor mounts for the bike just for such hills I hate them so :-)

you should see me at Naram. usually 6 camera's around my neck pack etc.. 2 regulars 2 high speed at least 1 tripod and some strap ons and some toss under the pad point and shoots. I don't even notice that one camera or the phone (thats whats in the pouch my giant phone)

when your as big as I am those things are tiny :-)

You have to embrace hill riding. Mr. Beanz, one of the regular posters here, always encourages hill climbing as a way to improve your cycling in general, and he's right. When I did the MS City to Shore much of my training was rides near my home - an area Chefisaac described as "hilly." It helped a lot, even though the MS ride is on flat ground.

BTW one of my big peeves regarding my weight is how its distributed. Everything is in my middle. As a result you outweigh me by more than a hundred pounds and we are only two waist sizes apart. When I was 240 I had a 44 waist, and was frustrated because guys like Bdinger outweighed me yet had smaller waist sizes. As far as clothing sizes lost, keeping in mind my build I dropped a size every 20 pounds or so. I went from a 60 waist to a 46 in a year.

Yeah all of the 58-62's are long gone, fortunately. Don't worry, yours will be gone soon too!

I really do have odd weight distribution. Even now at 306 I'm more of a 42 than a 44, and some 40's are even starting to fit. Shirts are more XL than XXL, in fact right now I'm wearing an "Alpine fit" North Face XXL shell, and it's baggy.

Tell ya what, I'll send everything your way, Neil, and you and Nerys can distribute between each other as the sizes between you start adjusting. I'm going to inventory (and wash) everything tonight, but there's quite a bit there. Some styles I'll be sad to see go, but not the sizes.

I think there's some visual evidence of weight loss here. Nerys' face is thinner.

Chris says he'll update tomorrow night. In a text message tonight he said "I am wasted." Today's ride, and the climb, knocked him out.

BTW, another four pounds gone. Dude is at 429. Next goal is breaking below 400, which he thinks he can do in eight weeks. I say by March 31.

Continuing with goal setting, Nerys will be riding in the Delaware Double Cross metric century, July 7 in Middletown. The ride crosses the state twice - look at the map, Delaware is very narrow. The purpose of his riding this is to not only get used to the distance, but also get used to riding in a large group.

BTW I rode this in 2007. It was my first metric century. And I think it will be a great one for Chris.

Stuff like that infuriates me. I was over 400 pounds and consuming 960 calories a day while riding my bike an hour a day at some points this spring, yet there were three weeks in particular where I lost 1.5, 2.0 and then no weight. I can say with a completely straight face that I absolutely positively did not cheat. My body just didn't let go of the calories yet.

My wife, sick of not being able to drop weight herself, did something much the same. She got pretty discouraged that even with only consuming 800 calories there was a week where she lost 1.2, then last week 1.7, despite that being over 1% of her body weight. Yet she didn't stop.

As I said in my own thread, this past week I've done not much different aside from racheting back my lunch calories from 550 to 300, and upping my exercise by a half an hour - and I lost 2 pounds a day. I don't understand why as the math isn't there, but it's happened.

Chris, I'm unsure of your specific program, but am curious about water and soda consumption. I know for me and everyone I know who has lost weight this is absolutely key. I drink 200-300 ounces of water a day, and if I don't, it throws me off big time. If I do, with obviously diet and exercise, I'm guaranteed weight loss.

My wife being the little science nerd that she is never believed me until she started her own program. She finally started drinking around 150-180 ounces of water a day (roughly 1oz for each pound of body weight) and immediately saw the weight flying off.

I also drink no soda or carbonated beverages whatsoever. When I do I can almost be guaranteed I'll retain weight/water. That stuff is poison. For me it's just black coffee and water, with the occasional tea. Or Rockstar + Hydration, though very very rarely on that.

I don't know if that helps, but for me it's key. 1600-1800 calories a day, at least 200 ounces of water, at least an hour on the bike.

So TJClay, until me show you a program that you are dedicated to and consistently lose weight with - you get the idea.
I quoted the message, not as an attack on the poster, but to show the difference between Nerys then and now. The big guy was very frustrated and demoralized. As you and I and other former and present superclydes know, its easy to become discouraged, especially if you have no support. Nerys has been 400 pounds or more for half his life.... I only reached that size for a few years.

I'm not sure what brought on the new attitude. Nerys thinks its that this time he has an accountability partner - me - and thus someone who he can lean on for support when he needs it. I think simply having someone to do things with is the key. It was in my case - I went from someone wondering if I'd ride a bike again to someone planning a century, and I've lost 15 pounds in the past month. Nerys started this thread to fix himself, and he seems to have fixed me.

Anyway, I have to get off the computer. Nerys will be here in an hour, for a ride, a trip to my bike shop, and then the gym. I'm going to give him some core stuff to do..... I can't wait until he tries to "build the bridge."

I think Nerys is a wise young man. Accountability is a key to most things in life. Even in my spiritual life I have found that an accountability partner is key to my growth. On the physical side, my darling bride might not be a great accountability partner, per se, but she is a great encouragement partner.

If I can offer any advice it will be to track everything - even if you grab a handful of chips, a cookie, a nut - and meet with a nutritionist. Find a plan that works for you and run with it. The nutritionist part is critical, however, as I've found myself to balance a diet. My diet right now is 1700-2100 calories per day (most days I'm spot at 1780, on days with long rides I'll be closer to 2100) with hardly any carbohydrates, processed fats, sugars, or processed anything. Veggies, meats, more veggies, more meats, fruits and almond milk. And lots of riding of bicycles.

Also I know this seems trivial but believe in yourself. That's the only thing that got me out of a sinking depression upon realizing I'd almost undone all of my work earlier this year, I made myself believe in myself. Dozens of times per day I say to myself or in my head "SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP, YOU CAN DO THIS".

Sound stupid? Silly? It works.

You can fix your world. Track. everything. Get a system that works. Then just keep moving, be it a two hour ride or a two minute walk. Ironically one of the smartest things I did for my weight loss was while at work I use the bathroom in the lower floor, then walk around the building to go back upstairs. Seriously. That may seem like something of little impact but I generally drink 200-250 ounces of water per day while at work.

So you know, I pee a lot.

Anyway all I know is that when I see someone like you I wish I could bottle up the feeling of walking into a regular store and buying regular clothes, or perhaps just being unnoticed in a crowd. It's brilliant. It's worth it. You can do it.
Awesome progress, awesome! I have never been as heavy as you were, but I know the feeling of losing enough to graduate from the "big and tall" shops to being able to walk into normal stores and find clothes that fit, it feels fantastic. I even found I got an extra kick of then losing that bit more to walk into designer stores like Armani and Versace and be able to wear their gear, that was something (and so was the price tag! but trying on doesn't mean buying! hehe) Unfortunately that was a few years ago and at the start of last year I had crept back up to top end of normal stores again. Anyway, that was a year ago, and I have progressed, slowly. I am still in normal clothes stores, but cannot venture into designer stores again yet!

I am glad you mentioned the water, I had been forgetting that the last few weeks (trouble adjusting back after a few weeks holiday!)

Nerys, you will get there too. The feeling you have as you drop clothes sizes is great, and from reading this whole thread, you are now on track, keep going, it will happen!!!

Neil, very happy for you too, you reached out to help, and it seems you've helped yourself just as much in turn, that's karma!
