My First metric Century!

Today was my first metric century, The Peach! 65 miles the most I've ever done. I'm glad to say I was successful, I also made my fastest time down hill at 38 m.p. My hubby Mr. Hill-Pumper came with my and even though he is a more experienced rider he stay with me, giving me words of encouragement!:love:Thank you Hubby! I wish I could show you all pictures but we mistakenly left the camera at home. The weather was perfect 70's we did have some wind on the home stretch. The food they served us was great, YUMMY!:thumb:However at the lunch portion someone mis- labeled the sandwiches so the ham sandwich my hubby ordered turned out to be turkey, in fact everyone who ordered the ham got turkey! I also had to comment that they did not have enough potties for everyone, 4 at start, 2 at lunch stop, and 2 at end for 3,000ish people, we had to do some waiting around. We were served peach pie after the ride with whip!:D This ride started in Salem Or. went through Jefferson Or. to Stayton and back to Salem. My average speed was 15-18m.p not to bad I wanted to pace myself to conserve energy, also I got down real low on bike coming off the hills to conserve energy and gain speed so rolling hills required little effort. Thanks for checking out my post, hope you found helpful or at least interesting!

I did my first Metric in June and tho I struggled on the hills, I still felt great having completed it. Peach pie at the end....I'm JEALOUS

Way to go....I have a way to go to build up to a metric but maybe next year I'll be writing a report. Thanks for the report and inspiration.

I'm going to say I'm really proud of the way Mrs. Pumper gutted out the ride today. Towards the end I knew she was struggling up the hills at the end, but she did not give up. We noticed a support vehicle taking a couple of riders in to the finish, she looked at me and said she was determined not to be one of those who needed a ride in. I may have offered support, but she did the pedaling and finished this by herself. I'm going to have to watch out on the flats because she flat can cook those things out at 15-18 mph. It looks like the average for the whole ride was about 13+ mph, still really good for a first time at that distance. Below is the link from Strava from my ride. It should be close to her time since we rode at the same pace for the ride.

Congrats! The next one will be even better/more fun.:thumb:

Edit: I just took a look at the strava info. Looks like a very nice climb there at the 53 mile mark.
