I have a custom built Spesh Rockhopper SL Singlespeed frame w/ full carbon Niner rigid fork, Niner carbon RDO bars and stem, Easton Haven carbon post and just added new Hope hubs w/ WTB frequency tubeless rims. SLX cranks running 32x19 gearing right now, bit tall for my hills but good work out just PITA to spin the legs up fast enough for those rocky or steep sections. It weighs about 20.5lbs w/ the heavy kenda nevegals 2.25". Could be lighter w/ racing tires but I like grip over that last 1lb of weight. Started off w/ a $140 frame off craigs then spiraled to nutty from there

Other rig is complete opposite, full suspension 5x5" trek rumblefish 29er with brake and cockpit upgrades. I have a 140mm REBA Revelation fork waiting to go on it when I have some time to play w/ it.

So after 5 months off due to back injury, I finished physical therapy and waited until the day my therapist said I could start riding again, and got my bike modified to add a funky looking stem extender to raise the handlebars about 8 inches, to alleviate pressure on my discs.

I'm back. I won't be going as long or far as I was before, but I'm back on the bike and in the end, that's all that really matters.

Yeah, seems to work well. I've gone up to 31 miles on it so far with 0 pain. The first few rides felt a little weird, I wasn't used to how much torque I needed to turn. Taking corners sharply seems more difficult now too.

But like I said. I'm back. That's all that matters. It was either this or trying to figure out how a trike recumbent could possibly work logistically.

My outlook on riding has changed. I'm no longer perfornace-focused, but happiness-focused.

Some pics from Peninsula State Park in Door County Wisconsin over the last week I was up there. It was the last place my old roadie had a chance to spin her wheels because of my error, but the MTB still lives on.

Oh and this was my first time riding on some single track trails. Totally worth it for the $4 I paid to the WDNR.

The last hill out, I came up this at the beginning and wanted to hit it on the way out. It was so much fun I went back up it and did it again!

The light at the end of the tunnel was a straight drop into a meadow.

Of course no ride is complete without having to stop for a FLAT from a 100 year old NAIL....in the woods......miles from any structure. But it was really pretty scenery.

9/08/2013 - Early morning in Lake Mary, FL (just north of Orlando) about to head out on 33 mile loop as part of a service club charity ride. Other distances offered were 66 & 100 miles . . . May be THERE one of these days!

Bike is a 2012 Giant Escape 2 . . . And YES, it has a small front basket for my great "Hipe" sound system, spare water and the ever-important perspiration displacement device (i.e. - sweat towel!)

Century selfies?

I like the idea!! Might do that on my ride this Sunday. Just won't be on a super six but on the Dirty Gertie.

Nice going, Lee! How's the back since you've been strictly on the recumbent?

Back has been pretty solid. I've had a couple of episodes of muscle spasms in my back. I had these before surgery but they are much less intense now. I'm actually trying to get through one now. It seems on days that I ride my back feels better. I have six recumbents now and they are all easy on my back. I have a low racer that isn't quite as comfy as the others. I've ridden about 1800 miles this year so far. It's been 11 months since my surgery and I'm just now feeling like I'm starting to get in shape.
