Yesterday when out for about 20 miles on my hardtail mountain bike. Rode through a bunch of orchards, farmland, and some old oil land. Had a great time just exploring.
Today I went out with an old high school friend. I took out my new Stumpjumper FSR and we rode the Keysville Classic trail. We did one loop and then headed over to Kern River Brewing for a couple of pints. The weather was great and we all had a good time.

Picked up a new (to me) spotless 2010 Specialized Secteur Elite today and took a little afternoon spin around Port Canaveral, FL to check it out . . . Quite a nice riding machine (after navigating a Giant Escape 2 the past few months!)
P.S. - Thank you to the kind user for offering instructions for posting full-size images. Sorry - I don't have enough posts to respond via direct message (nor probably enough to 'see' the check box you mentioned regarding the site hosting of images.) Thanks for your help!

Have a friend getting into cycling. We like to do the Upper Santa Ana River Trail (SART). It's 40 miles of paved bike trail, away from traffic - perfect for squirrelly new riders. The scenery varies from wilderness area, horse ranches, residential, industrial, junk yards etc. All interesting. Consistent is the slight grade up (it's out and back) and grade down and the San Gabriel mountains in the background. Weather started out cool but sunny but later it got overcast. Suppose to get Santa Ana winds tonight..
Where we ate after - a cool local's place where people ride there horses - the ride starts in the town of Norco - Horse Town USA...

Took a short solo spin down into the canyon to the American River in No. CA at the site of the never completed Auburn Dam. Picture is taken at river bottom where local water agency pumps river water up for domestic use.
Beautiful day and lots of bikers/hikers/equestrians out enjoying the sunshine.

This last weekday I did a "birthday" ride - something new I hadn't done before... Rode up the The National Forest6 Service Road,West Fork, San Gabriel River. Now remember CA is in a severe drought so not much water but I can imagine in a El Ninjo year, the river is full...
Start of the ride:
Continue up on the road - you can see the steady grade:
Dry waterfalls along he way - just imagine there water and these waterfalls are flowing:
The stream along the way:
Payoff - the top of the Cogswell Dam: Water is dangerously low
Looking back down the 18% grade we had to climb:
I saw lots of roadies on this road - Highway 39 up to Crystal Lake or Angeles Highway:
Beautiful but cold (40 degrees) day:

LET'S ROLL
I prefer to ride my roadbike most of the time.
But this time of year there's a lot of crap on
the road, I use my folder with it's fenders.

Here are a couple pictures from this weekend's mtb ride. A little over 15 miles with close to 3,500' of climbing.
A new section of single track that needs some work:
A view over the valley:
Part of a fire road we climbed.

Here are a couple from the trails close to my house.
It's fairly easy to see why I've been having more fun on the mtbs.

I'm pretty spoiled. That picture was less than 3 miles from my door. Also to rub it in the side roads are reasonably smooth and almost no traffic. I just got back from a 40 mile ride and was only passed by maybe 25 cars.

Yeah we have a lot of climbing too but that's not too bad. As we say it's all downhill except the parts that aren't...

So its been rainy 4 days in CA... didn't get to ride Saturday but my ride buddy and I decided "rain or shine" we were riding Sunday even if its 10 miles and we go to breakfast... we got in 26 miles but after was totally soak... it started out dry, got drizzling and twice got so heavy we had to hide out until the downpour subdued. But it was a beautiful day out... the trails (we stayed mostly on paved MUPs) were quiet. It was just nice to get out and pedal around. A couple of places along the stream (San Diego Creek) the birds were really enjoying the water.... yes we are crazy die-hard... had to spent 2 hours after cleaning my bike!
San Diego Creek flowihng with muddy water
On the Creek trail
Hiding out while it rained hard
Bright spot in the rain

I took a few days off work and headed out to the coast. I was only able to do one short ride due to weather but here is my new cross bike with some road tires on it.
