It's been a bad week here. Started Sunday off finding a pipe leak in the house, which lead to quite the discussion between the wife and myself. Combine that with my loathing of the holidays in general, and you have a recipe for disaster. Not much sleep all week, eating absolute crap all week, drinking a lot all week, and no exercise at all. So I stepped on the scale Friday morning to discover I had lost 3 pounds...maybe I should find more stress?

Got me and the wive out today for a nice ride, low 70's, not much traffic, she was trying out a new seat, so there were a couple of stops for adjustments. But, I did manage to keep her out for 12 1/2 miles, which is her longest ride so far. She does an hour on the exercise bike easily, but it is different when you get outside.

For today's entertainment, we had a Bald Eagle flying near us, the herd of wild turkeys was out (guess they looked at their calender and decided it was safe), and a raccoon family hanging out by the river.



So, how long will it take you to get back on the bike? Anybody go for an after dinner ride yesterday?

I did my Black Friday shopping on the bike. The first part of the ride was tough as I headed into a 25-30 mph headwind


But when I headed for home with that same wind at my back, the riding was easier

Knee pain returned with vengeance on return portion...I have a bike fit setup this week at Vntgdrms shop so hoping maybe it is a fit issue. Will add pics I took later once I have the camera hooked up and upload them. These were on my iPhone. Was foggy down toward Seal Beach. 2nd pic was in Huntington Beach.

I about froze my butt off today! It was only about 58 or so when I started in Costa Mesa but I had planned my outerwear (overnighted at the inlaws) assuming a late afternoon return. fortunately, I found my arm warmers in my bike gear bag, so that helped a lot. The fog... yeesh. The sun popped out about an hour into my ride and warmed things up nicely, so maybe 10 am.

Beachgrad: I've had knee problems related to fit. I sorted them out myself, actually. If the professional fit doesn't work, mess around a little bit the bike fit yourself. In my case, lowering the seat more than I knew is right worked. I only had problems with one bike (I have several), and lowering the seat did the job.

Did 19.3 on Thursday pre-dinner, then did an involuntary rest day on Friday while I replaced the disposal and kitchen faucet... well, actually I bought the new parts, took out most of the old parts and then was stumped because I didn't have anything close to the right tool to get the old faucet base off the sink... so called the plumber and 'coached' him through the rest of the job. Still, its done and the wife was very appreciative. Then did 32.2 today <strava> in absolutely gorgeous weather. Enjoyed a chat with a couple on a Santana tandem riding at about my speed. Dodged the worst of the road work along Foothill although I did have to stop for some only one way at a time traffic controls.

UGH! I've been off mine since I got hurt on the 6th. It's driving me absolutely stir crazy. Thank God i've got a old Raleigh in my garage to restore.

38 when I left for work this morning. C'mon now, 58 is darn near tropical.

I rode to my mom's place to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Then I rode home. So yes. I took a post-dinner ride. The next morning I did a rode ride of about 35 miles and then rode about 10 miles round trip to shop for dinner. Fresh pasta, vegetables and rabbit sausage.

I've been off the bike for just over a week. A combination of schedule and lack of cold-weather riding gear. Sunday Mrs PJ and I went to the local college and "ran" (read: walked with jogging segments) two miles then jumped on the bikes immediately and did 14 miles. We have a tri coming up in Feb and have no idea how things are going to go. The riding is easy for me and Mrs PJ is getting stronger, too. So the 14 miles was not an issue, but we wanted to see what it was like after the "run". I have now found what hurts the leg the most to date since having the hamstring removed. RUNNING SUCKS!

Anyway, once I got home, I spent the rest of the day building our patio cover. I'm not going to sugar coat this. I HURT. Every muscle in my body hurts. I suspect the muscle they took out even hurts. If I never climb a ladder again or carry a 75 lb. header again, it will be TOO SOON!

....but then again, it feels really good! I need professional help, I know.

For our entertainment, we had the police helicopter flying near us, a herd of hipsters hanging out under an overpass drinking Wild Turkey and a group of local gang bangers hanging out by the river (if that's what you want to call it!)


Dude - SHUT UP! You know all those freeway shootings we have here in L.A.? Those aren't road rage or gang related. Those are people from Minnesota who snapped from one too many comments about freezing 58 degree mornings and coming out here to get revenge! Besides, telling everyone about our "miserable" weather is like the Rose Parade. Makes everyone want to move here!

For clarification, it was only cold because I didn't have any cool weather gear with me. I realize that 58 is balmy.

Beware the NorCal gangstas! I commuted this morning in 46 deg F weather ... in shorts! But hey, I'm a former Canuck from Vancouver, so tis balmy alright, eh?

First ride (Sunday) after Thanksgiving was on my single. Beautify weather: 52 miles, 5000' of climbing. Wife and I did get out on Thanksgiving morning for an easy, flat 36 miles including a coffee stop.

I ran (I really, really, really hate running) an organized 10K in the morning and hopped on the bike for a quick flat 22 miles after dinner. The start of the 10K was around 39 degrees while the start of the ride was about 65.

I did a ride on Thanksgiving before our big dinner. Missed Friday but got a good 37 mile ride in Saturday. I was in somewhat of a hurry when I posted to the 100+ mile thread but my Saturday ride was noteworthy. I saw a great snowy owl early in the ride. A bit past midway I also saw a badger, I hissed at it and it turned around and went back the way it came from then it dawned on me that badgers can be rather mean. Luckily it did not decide to attack. A mile farther up the road I saw a coyote. It is normal to see wildlife on my rides but I've never seen a snowy owl or a badger while on a ride before. I should have taken a pic but my iPhone is a poor camera.
