HA HA! I Fooled member Vntgdrms (shop visit for Athena Wear)

http://www.bicycleretailer.com/retai...-orange-county

FTR, Vntgdrms flew up GMR on the CLyde/Athena GMR Ride!

First a link to a write up about her shop, everything she says is true, not an itty bitty 87 lb racer girl shop, she had a decent amount of "junk in the trunk" stuff for Gina. NOTE: Those that don't know me, That is not a negative comment as I love me some junk in the trunk!

Let me first say that Gina and I live near Mt Baldy/GMR/Upland area and we have traveled county to county visiting shops that have absolutely zilch when it comes to Athena/junk in the trunk women. We have been to Redland, Riverside, Berdo, other way Monrovia, Pasadena, other way HB, OC, all over the local areas and shops. Few years back she found some Terry shorts at a shop in the OC, she loved them but now old and worn, she hasn't been able to find something she likes more even though the Terry were getting old. So shop after shop, NOTHING! Of course we won't buy her anything on line without a fitting since she is picky about the high waist in the back on the bike.

So I figure I'll give Vntgdrms a call.

Hello, I'm looking for some Terry shorts for my wife, do you stock her size (2XL)? You do? Do you have ore than one pair in stock? You do? What's that, you have other brands that will fit as well? What's that, you have several to choose from?....She wasn't lying! Another note: Gina is not age sensitive and silly stuff like that so the size is posted in order to show other Athenas that a selection of larger sizes is available a this Athena boutique.

She has no idea who I am ha ha! So I tell her that I don't want to make the 1 hour 1 way drive if she doesn't have them in stock but she says she does so let's go! As soon as I walk in the door she says, "You're the one that called". See, already she's proving to be smart. You'd be surprised how many people wouldn't have picked up on that, seriously ha ha! Yup, that was me and she needs some shorts.

So right away Vntgdrms takes her over to the rack and shows her several models and brands that are available to the Athena rider. NICE! I myself have never seen any shop with anything more than one XL and ONE XXL in stock. Vntgdrms goes through the line up and gives info on each model and brand while making several valuable suggestions. Also available are the bibs. Sheesh, try finding those in Athena size at a shop we've been to! I watned Gina to try them on but she's not thrilled about the idea so she goes for the shorts. Then VD pulls out the knickers. Oh, there she goes, Gina's a knickers type! Gina ends up liking the knickers no surprise and walks away with two pair and a pair of shorts as well. Couple of Terry items and a "Sheila Moon" Item. Gina really likes the Terry brand but neither one of us have heard of SM but after we get home, Gina shows her preference to the SM line. Hmm, never would have known about this line without the visit to the shop.

So Gina is happy but what about me? OK, SO I got to use the "Woman's" restroom at the shop after the long drive but what about Clyde shorts? Could she suggest a brand for me" Yes she does! She even shows me some of the women models in order to show samples of the chamois built into the mens stuff. Hey, not bad, when I need more shorts, I'll know what brands to check out!

Well after the purchase she gets a water bottle and puts it in Gina's bag. Cool, I've spent $2500 at a shop before and didn't get squat ha ha! As we're ready to leave a woman walks in and starts talking bikes. Wow, women talk bikes too, who would have thought? So right before we walk out I say to her, You don't recognize us, do ya?". She looks kind of puzzled so I inform her. She has a good laugh then I had to sneak in a pic before leaving ha ha! Pretty cool visit and she does know her stuff. I had her talking about bike rides and stuff just to see what she'd say and know. And yes, she knows her stuff!

So we get home and I ask her to pose her goodies for the Athena forum. To show the high waist fit and junk in the trunk capabilities of these shorts.

I tried to keep track of which brand was which but after snapping a couple of pics, I forgot what I was there for ha ha! But either way, a few pics to show how the shorts are built on a body that can't ever seem to find an shorts with good coverage where it's needed on an Athena. Can't ever find anything that fits so she was happy walking out with 3 pair right off the rack!

VntgDrms and Gina at the shop

I aksed Gina to pose, she obliged for the good of all Athenas across the county and beyond!

High waist does not leave anything exposed to the elements

Nice supportive material

High waist, enough to cover junk in the trunk leaving no lower back exposed

Knicker and shorts, she loves the way they fit

OK, at this point, I forgot why I was taking pictures and just kept snapping pics ha ha!

Boy you don't know how lucky you are to have access to a store like that. There is nothing in the bike shops or recreation shops around here for Athena type women. I have to order online and hope for the best. I like those knickers and wonder if you could check the brand on those for me so I can check them out..... They all look good on Gina.

The knickers she has in the pic are made "Sheila Moon" brand. She likes these more than the Terry. Sheila Moon has small V in the front modeled after yoga pants. Gina thought they would be uncomfy with belly hanging out at the V but she says actually very nice and supportive, no belly hanging concerns.

Others are Terry knickers not in pics. Nice too but Gina prefers the Sheila Moon.

I'm surprised she didn't recognize your voice, it's not like you're quiet while riding.

.... I did bring it up in the conversation that we lived near Baldy and we rode GMR. I told her we got groups of riders to climb GMR, I thought she'd recognize my voice maybe. All that tells me is she doesn't watch the videos ha ha ha!

I love Vntgdrms store. And her water bottles are SWEET. Not cheapo shop bottles that leak. I have been using mine this week on my commute to work. I just wish I wasn't so darn broke cuz I could spend some $$$$$ in her shop.

And thank Gina for being such a great model!

I have not yet looked up the shop - but in reviewing the website - I think this fantastic!

"- "Shrink to fit": I cater to women of all sizes in the shop (xs-3X), but sometimes we use cycling for fitness and weight loss. And lets be honest...we didn't pick the cheapest sport! Good clothing costs good money. So what to do when you lose weight and need a smaller jersey? If you buy a jersey from us, and drop down a size, you give me back that jersey and I will give 50% off a jersey of equal or lesser value in that smaller size. Maybe we can have a "wall of fame" or donate those jerseys to new riders."
