Ride in the OC with Vntgdrms 11-24-12

Today I rode with Vntgdrms and another lady on ride out of her shop (The Unlikely Cyclist). Was a bit nippy at the start and was glad to be wearing my arm warmers! Guess the cold and fog deterred others from coming out but the three of us who did ride had a nice one.

Our start point:

On PCH heading North (think we are crossing SART here):

Fog starting to lift a bit but it is still a bit cold and moist:

We turned around at Warner and this is just past Seapoint in HB (weather cleared up nicely):

After the ride...Vntgdrms put my bike on the trainer and adjusted my seat. She saw my knees were bowing out on the ride which is probably why my knee has been bothering me. Once that was done...she showed me how to wrap bar tape as I got new bar tape (my bar tape was worn out). So with her tutelage I pretty much wrapped the bars 3/4 myself. I also got new bottle cages today.

After removal of the old bar tape:

Pink handlebar tape is very cool.
It makes the bike faster.

Looks like you had a good day.
Any day you ride is a good day.

Oh C'mon now, I told you that after the first Clyde rider up GMR. I even gave you a still shot from the video Sheesh, I get no repect! :D

Looks like a good time. We were out there but much later, no fog and lots of sunshine! :thumb:

As the father of three daughters I love the concept of women helping other women!

Much respect and props to you! I thought I had fixed it after your input. But with putting the aqua rack on, I had to take the seat post out...when I put it back in, I used the black electrical tape as a guide (put there based on your recommendation). Was fine I think but right before MS ride I noticed aqua rack cage was loose and needed to adjust it. Took it off to tighten the bottle cages down. Morning of MS ride day 1 the seat felt too high, so adjusted it down a tad. Not sure if I tightened seat post enough and think it slid down too far and I didn't notice until my knee started hurting. Tried raising seat last week but was not sure if was enough.

OK, I feel better now.:D

She did. Her store is really great. Last night I attended a bike fit event and had measurements taken and now know better what might be needed to make the bike more comfortable for me. 1. shorter stem 2. wider handlebars due to my wide shoulders 3. seat height based off measurements and 4. cleat position (need to deal with that but also need to replace them SOON).

Yeah nice!............... OK, who the heck tried to compare REI to her shop?

No way does the " do you want one pair itty bitty undersized Pearl Izumis, or the Canari $12 quality super value overpriced shorts?" of REI compare to the selection, size selection of The Unlikley Cyclist. ;)

We drive 5 minutes to REI to browse around after dinner on Fri nites. Cool deal if you like looking around at gadgets and clothes that don't fit you (cycling wise). But 5 year of this and we have never found ONE pair of shorts to fit Gina. We bought 3 during our first visit to her shop. And there were plenty more when we left.

No no, we don't get discounts, we don't even like Lisa. :D Just telling the truth for those non 5 ft tall 95 lb ladies that don't fit the REI selection. ;)

That guy must manage an REI. What an irrelevant comment, oy.

Saw that. REI is not exactly what I would call a cycling shop since they sell a bit of everything related to sports and outdoors.

TrojanHorse 11-30-12 10:26 PM

Ha ha - you got a retraction! Nicely done. File it under "men don't get it" and move on.

Beachgrad05 12-01-12 02:04 AM

I just don't get the big love for REI.... Of course he lives in Medford, Ore. which my husband recently went to to look at a 60's muscle car that was for sale.... and he said it was not exactly a busy metropolis so maybe all they have is REI. Ha ha ha. They might have one bike store in the whole area unlike here where small bike shops are normal not out of the ordinary.

Some men get it....Beanz was the first one to get after the comparison to REI.
