So cal century in jan

The wife and I are thinking about coming down and riding the century. It's a ways outside San Diego but not too terrible.

Anyone want to go?

Im doing the Tour De Palm Springs on Feb 9 so I'm out

PhotoJoe 11-26-12 10:38 AM

Doing the Los Alimitos Tri on on the 23rd and possibly the Tour of Palm Springs. Don't think I can add another to the ticket...and survive. ;)

Hm, I forgot about that one... tempted... schedule might even be open... man, that thing is in the middle of bloody nowhere!

TJClay 11-26-12 11:06 AM

Thinking about it also, but in for Palm Springs as long as it isnt windy like last year.

Pamestique 11-26-12 11:12 AM

Done the Stagecoach a couple of times... will be interesting to see what you think of it. I have missed feelings but basically because I had some issues on the ride. It does get windy and cold out there...

If you are coming down to spend the night and can make a weekend of it... plan to tour the Julian/Mt. Laguna area on the way back...

Actually, looks easier to get to than Borrego Springs (really in the middle of nowhere). Where doing the Borrego Springs 100K in December - long drive for us. Palm Springs on Feb; hope it's not as windy as last year.

I will check out palm springs, I could do both :)

I really want to schedule more events this year, it keep me motivated and give me something to plan for.

Not certain where you live and what you like but if you have not tried it out before, look at doing the COOL BREEZE out of Ventura in August, the CRUISING THE CONEJO out of Thousand Oaks in March/April and the SPOOKTACULAR out of Bakersfield in October. Or also the SIERRA CENTURY out of Mammoth in September. All great rides. And if you can get in... the WILDFLOWER out of Creston in April (not the Chico one although that's nice too).

+1 to that!

I won't be allowed outside of a 50 mile radius from home about that time or yr. I heard good things about the stagecoach route, just cold

rdtompki 11-26-12 04:42 PM

We try to get one or more organized rides a month. February is Palm Springs, March is Solvang (not my fav), April is Tierra Bella. Once we hit April things have moved up north and we don't have to travel as far. There is a stretch in the summer where even the 100K are too hard for us on the tandem. Not much in November either, due to the chance or rain.

Well, I'm out - both kids have a soccer tournament that weekend. *sigh*

This is how I got things rolling for me in 2012. I signed up for Tour of LB (May 5), Beach Babe ride (July 15) and the MS ride (Oct 20/21) all in March just after getting started riding BEFORE I upgraded to a road bike. I spent $ on each event to sign up so in order to not waste the $ I had to ride to be ready. I later signed up for my first Metric (June 23).

So far I've only signed up for 1 event in 2013 (Tour de Palm Springs Century - Feb). $ has been a limiting factor in being able to sign up for more but am keeping my eyes peeled. No way am I doing Solvang tho. There are other events that might be doable in April. I think I will do the Big Ring ride again as it was a pretty decent ride and will be better supported this year I suspect having a year under their belt now. Want to do the Cool Breeze in August. The MS ride is also on my agenda as that ride was fantastic - well supported and ran and of course $$ goes to a good cause.

Right this second we are planning to do both, so maybe we can all hook up at Palm Springs
