Tour de Cure - Ship to Shore - Team Clydes and Athenas - In the Bag!

http://main.diabetes.org/shiptoshore

Who's in? April 28, 2013

They are running discounted registration right now, which seems a bit contradictory to the concept of a fundraiser, but it got me to bite. Mrs. PJ and I are in. She's signing up for the full 100 miles.

Discount codes are:
DEC1 for December 1 - Registration is $1
DEC2 for December 2 - Registration is $2
DEC3 for Dec.....etc.
DEC12 for December 12 - Registration is $12
DEC13 - You're out of luck and get to pay the full $15 registration!

To join our C/A team, go to TEAM CLYDES AND ATHENAS and click join team.

If you aren't going to ride, would you consider sponsoring one of us Clydes who are going to ride? We'd all really appreciate it and we all know what a good cause this is! While there is an option to donate to "the team" instead of a rider, we all have to raise a minimum of $175 to participate. Please consider donating on behalf of a specific member. I don't think anyone's feelings will be hurt or feel like you're playing favorites!

My fundraising page

I haven't seen anything official yet, but I did find this:

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1118074

And remember there is a $175 minimum fundraising requirement to ride.

I am already committed to joining a team...(Monrovia Cyclists Against Diabetes - out of Stan's Bike Shop). But I will look for you guys.

I am looking forward to Anchovie Hill and going up and down Palos Verdes Estates.

This is my last TdC ride, a couple of weeks ago:

BG, last year I stayed at the Westin. I plan to again stay overnight in LB.

Maybe we can get together a pre-ride party with C&A members and other interested riders.

YAY....I see a party in the future.

BTW, I have not seen M. Beanz posting in the last few days. He usually posts several times a day.

Is he OK?

There is a really nice camp spot right by here. When my brother was dying my company loaned me the motor home and we parked it there so I'd be close in case his time came late at night. Came in handy and was nice spot

I tried to register - no luck. DEC1 is no longer available and DEC2 is unavailable. I'll try tomorrow, maybe there is a limit each day on how many can be "redeemed". The route looks a little dull but it's definitely roads I've not ridden yet so what the heck, I'm in.

I guess my point is that there are events all over the country, on different dates, and we aren't all going to be able to participate together, which I inferred was the reason for the OP. I took it as a forum-wide call to do something that can't be done. We don't all live in SoCal (or Texas, or PA/Jersey).

Parts of the route (at least the lastcouple of years) are a bit boring, especially the portions through industrial LB. But Anchovy Hill is fun, and the climbs in and around Palos Verdes can be fun, especially if it is windy. The finish, by the Queen Mary is always great.

I am glad that everyone is getting together for this. I look forward to the pre-ride "party."

Hey Craig. Glad you do the ride in your area. And totally understand that you can't make it to SoCal to ride this particular ride.

As I'm sure you've seen, we have a group of C/A riders who get to ride together from time to time. We're in a tough spot because, while yes we could use the SoCal regional forum, most riders there are MUCH faster than us and just a different dynamic. I don't fault them, but they're not on our journey. So we post here. The downside is that this is a world-wide group and our local rides won't apply to everyone. Thank you all for understanding and putting up with us.

Codes are case sensitive....in case that helps.

Tour de Cure - Team Clydes and Athenas - Who's in? Discounted Registration

Are you sure you are signing up for the Ship to Shore ride? Maybe the discount is solely for that ride? Otherwise I'm at a loss...I had no issue with getting signed up and getting discount

Yeah, the DEC1 code says "Error: The discount you selected is no longer available." and the other ones say "Error: The discount code is not valid"

The difference between $2 and $15 isn't really significant enough for me to care, but it is annoying.

And yes, I am trying to sign up for the Team Clyde team with our fearless leader as leader. I can only assume that selecting that team means I'm trying to sign up for the ship to shore ride.

TH and the rest....

This is part of an email that I just received from the TdC people:

Uh-Oh!! It seems there was a little glitch in our system and the codes for the 12 days of December aren't working!
We apologize for the inconvenience. The good news is we will have a new promo for you next week that will give you the same great savings and even more!
Thank you for being a part of the Tour de Cure family. Stay tuned for new codes and BIG savings

Stay tuned.
