New Bike For Me- Bianchi!

On my quest for fitness, I have been riding a mid-80's Centurion I bought new...I have a lot of miles on it, but despite taking care of it, it has become very tired. Ever since the 80's I have loved Bianchi bikes....and made the mistake/ had the good fortune to ride one at a local bicycle expo. I found this one at a local shop where it had become a showroom orphan, sitting unsold since 2009. I got it for a good price and have alreayd found a great deal less pain after a ride compared to my old warhorse. Plus....now that I have a fancy bike, I really need to put the miles on it to make it worth the investment!

Oh my gosh it's in the big big combo!

Nice bike, I'm a Bianchi fan!:D

Some details on components? ;)

Nice bike, I do agree that there is some serious cross chaining going on though.

Was about to pass out by the time I got home from picking it up. I rode to shop on old bike, picked this up and rode some more of our daily ride and went home...a lot faster. Had no clue what gear I left it in...still getting used to not having shifters on the bottom tube...!

Yay for new bike day! Very nice ride.

Update!: The first day I picked up the bike, I rode down to the LBS on my old bike and then rode home. It felt pretty good. I have heard a fair number of arguments that it is "the rider, not the bike" in terms of speed, distance. etc.. I figured it was both...

The old bike I struggled to keep an average speed between 9 - 11 mph. Coasting was pretty much non-existant. Top speed was maybe 18 mph. On the new bike, with the same amount of effort, I average between 13-16 mph, with a top speed of 22 mph. I am also much more able to get spinning and keep going (unlike my old bike).

Overall, I think the bike was well worth the investment, as I feel much more able to reach my overall goals down the road someday....!

Compact crankset - Isn't that a 34T inner chainring?

Um...what happended to the old Centurion bike?

Yes, it is the 34t inner chainring....as for the old Centurion- it is now slated to be completly refurbished. I will disassemble it, and all the chips and paint damage of the decades will be worked out and fixed using an airbrush and paint blending so that I can retain as much of the original as possible. All metal will be polished out and waxed and the bike will get occasional rides for the fun of it. No getting ruined and ***** into a single speed or fixie for this old friend...!

OK, you're confusing me here. Pic looks like a standard crank in the pic and the specs say standard crank 53/39.....where does the compact crank conversation come in?:D

Phil_gretz 12-19-12 02:24 PM

On the Centurion - good plan!

On the crankset - to my eye, it looked like a compact, not a 53/39. I was guessing based on the picture.
