One last ride.......not!
I put the bike away in October and I started to run. My running was going great until I did something to my left calf. I can walk on the treadmill and ride the trainer, with very little discomfort. Running has been painful so I have been trying to rest the calf. I avoided running for 8 days and was going to go for a run yesterday. I stretched and started my warm up with walking. It started to feel a little funny so I came home. I decided to go for one last ride, after all the trainer has not been painful. It took about 30 minutes to get my winter gear out and put air in the tires. I figured a quick and easy hour ride, to end a good cycling season. Well it didn't work out that way. Three miles into it ,my calf started to burn and spasm. I couldn't even ride home and had to call the Mrs., to pick me up. It is really weird because today, it didn't hurt and I just did 45 minutes on the trainer. It felt OK.
I don't know if it is the cold or what the deal is.It doesn't matter, my riding season is officially over. I look forward to riding in 2013.

UGH I feel your pain. I partially tore my Achilles tendon on election night and haven't been allowed to get on my bike since.

calf pains sounds like wrong running shoes are being used.

Interestesting.....running shoes, huh?
I did pick up a new pair mid November. Same brand...just an upgrade. I ran in them for two weeks, including a 5k. Then the calf issue three weeks ago.

Lenny,
Are you on any medications currently (steroids and/or upper respiratory antibiotics, like levaquin)?

No...no meds. A multi-vitamin and whey protien are it. I think I found the issue.
I think is was the new running shoes. I went for a pain free run today.....in my old running shoes. I am going to order the exact same pair.
Thanks jsigone!!
