I'm Going To Make It!!!

800 miles. In spite of all the road-blocks this year has thrown at me, I'm going to break the 800 mile mark for total mileage in 2012. I need just 1 mile more.

I tried to add it on today, but the loop was just 10.07 miles and 6 of it was on ice which slowed me down too much to be sure I could finish before the sun set. It didn't seem wise to try riding on ice in the dark. My lights are good for others to see me, but I would want to see more than a 3 square foot patch to navigate. I did 90 degree skids a few times.

Just a quick jaunt tomorrow. This is the most miles I've covered since 2008.

Thanks all!

And it's official. 803.17 miles for 2012 which is the most I've managed since 2008! I pushed myself out the door 3.84 miles this morning. It would have been more, but the migraine I woke up with didn't appreciate the ride. I'm going to go lay down with a pillow over my head now.

I guess the challenge now is to beat 1,285 in 2008. Hopefully my 'willing spirit' won't be sabotaged by my 'weak flesh'

Great job!

One way I found to increase my mileage was to have a five mile rule, if you are going somewhere that is five miles or less then ride the bike. That along with some commuting really got my mileages up there. It's as easy as riding to the store instead of driving, give it a try.

aenlaasu congrats! How'd you come up with your goal for 2013? Hopefully you have a plan to accomplish it. I remember my breakthrough ride when I rode farther than what I had been riding up to that point, which was under 6 miles. Well then I went for one over ten and never locked back. I discovered that the effort required to ride 10+ is really not that great once you are accustomed to riding. You might give it a shot, on a whim add 30% distance overnight to your normal ride and see how you feel.Anyway good luck on working towards your new goal.

I came up with the 2013 goal because of my mileage in 2008. 1285 miles is the most I've ever done in a year. The years after were 713, 441, 674. I'm probably over-reaching by wanting to do at least 1300, but there it is. I want to set a new 'best ever' bar. It relfects the hope that 2013 will not only be a better in terms of distance cycled, but a better year all around. No injuries, mild instead of broiling summer, better health for me and my family... you get the idea.
