And like Beanz, I had a noise that tunred out to be coming from a loose cassette. Discovered it the same way he did. The ring nearly fell off when I went to change a flat.

I hope to god i can figure this thing out... part of the beauty of cycling is the quiet of your machine and only hearing the hum of the road and the wind .... and its a 50 mile trip on saturday worth of creaking -_-

while your at it you should check, lightly grease, and retorque your stem and handlebars unless there is no sound when you ride no handed.

you say the sound changes depending on which chainring your in?? make sure your front deraileur/chain are clear in all positions. also look at the left over cable end from your front der.

Check to see if your cleats are worn or loose. Ride for a bit with regular shoes to rule out cleat creaking. I was convinced my latest creak was from either the BB or cables rubbing but turned out to be the cleats.

I had the same problem turned out to be a bad link in the chain. I am almost certain that is what it is especially if it get worse after a while you are riding. I also get the same creaking if I use a wet lube on the chain dirt builds too fast.

I have found creaks and groans incredibly difficult to track down on my bike, but Sheldon brown offers some great places to start https://sheldonbrown.com/creaks.html With that said it sounds similar to the clank/creak/click on my bike which is from a bad bottom bracket(s). (In my experience ISIS is a terrible system for those of us who actually put *ahem* power to the pedals.) Try lining up the crank arm with the seat tube and squeezing/pressing them together. If this replicates the click you might just get to learn how to replace your bottom bracket. **disclaimer: I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on youtube. I'm just pretty adept at breaking things.

I had a very annoying sound last month which was tough to find. It was a mix of creaky and crunchy when i pedaled. Thought it was coming from the chain. No. Bottom bracket. No. Pedals. No. Cleats. No.

Turns out the non-drive side crank arm was "delaminating". The good news is even though the bike is 3 years old with tons of miles and SRAMs warranty is two years, they covered it. The even better news is i got an upgrade and now have a new SRAM red crankset. My ride to work today was very quiet. Rode like a new bike.

A type of bottom bracket bearing assembly.

https://sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/cartridge.html

"Most newer bicycles use cartridge bottom brackets, which are modular assemblies. These are normally not adjustable or serviceable; rather, they are intended to be replaced as a unit when the bearings become worn out or contaminated."

I'd vote to lube the rear QR drop outs. Simply add some Pedros to the axle where it meets the frame.

Money, it's gotta be the shoes. I have a squeak on both my bikes. The same squeak. The only thing they have in common is the shoes I wear when riding them.

I have a pair that "creeks" too. Thought it was the pedals (cleaned and lube bearings...) until I couldn't find my shoes and was late for a ride. Different shoes=no noise.

I had two creaks that were hard to find first was a cracked rear stay, second was on a brand new pedal, the spindle wasn't tight enough, right out of the box. Is the noise in sync with the cranks at a certain position? or sync with the wheels?

But i thank you all from all your help and hope this thread might help someone else out in the future.
