Business trip to San Francisco

Had a business trip to San Francisco last week. Most folks flew out on Wednesday and came back on Friday, but I decided to stay into the weekend.

So on Saturday, I rented a Trek FX something from one of the many bicycle rental places that cater to tourists, went across the Golden Gate bridge, and then turned left:

That's the Golden Gate bridge below me in the background.

Then a quick turnaround, a brisk downhill to Sausalito, and lunch outside in the sun while waiting for the ferry back to San Fran. A lovely day, made all the sweeter by knowing that it was below freezing back home in Philly.

Good for you! Smart taking advantage of such an opportunity in the middle of winter. Your smile speaks volumes,

The Gate gods smile upon thee.

Having lived in the Bay Area for all my life, I've only seen the Gate without a thick layer of fog covering at least a third of the towers once or twice. Definitely never when I've been up the hill in that spot. Congratulations on getting one of the best heat wave weather patterns I've ever seen in a January!

And get that picture framed! Epic!

Ooh, I know the spot well. Clearest days are in Winter:

Here's my favorite version of that ride: keep going on that road for a screaming 18% plunge on fresh pavement with eye-popping views:

Then it's back via the tunnel and down to Cavallo Point for a Liberty Ale on the deck:

The views from Cavallo Point are pretty nice, too:

Yeah, but I got a late start and I needed to get the bike back to the rental place by 5:30 ...

Excellent. That's one place I would love to get to ride someday.
