New here
I'm new here. I've read for a while and thought I join up. Since I'm larger (but smaller than I once was) this seems the appropriate place for an introduction. I'm located in Omaha, Nebraska.
I started out a year and a half ago at 6'3" and 267lbs. Since we had a treadmill that seemed to be the best place to start working out. After a year of running, I managed to work up to around 36 miles/week and dropped to 217 lbs. I also wore out and had to replace my older treadmill. I've lost about 5 1/2 inches off my waist.
But I found out the hard way, I can't run outside at those distances. It's too hard on the joints and I was stuck running inside on my hampster wheel. I took up elliptical at the local Y and weight lifting at home to mix up the workouts. I'm up to 230 lbs but have the same waistline as 217 so I'm assuming the weightlifting is working.
So, I thought biking would be a better less jarring alternative to running outside. I found a new bike, since the cheap big box bike I was riding was too small had developed a bent rear axle and some other mechanical problems.
I've added a bike and bike trainer next to the treadmill and I'm waiting for warmer weather and an earlier sunrise. Then outside I go and indoors on the trainer when needed. The new goal after hitting and exceeding my first several goals is to drop the last 10-15 lbs hanging on around the waist and keep moving it upwards with weightlifting.
I found the local bike trail map and can hardly wait for warmer weather to get here. We went out yesterday and will again today since the temperatures are around 50F.

Mine is a barely used 22" aluminum frame entry level 2008 Diamondback Sorrento mountain bike I picked up off craigslist. I found a decent barely used magnetic bike trainer that included a training tire on there too.
It looks like this bike at BikePedia's website, but since it's a 22" frame the top tube is almost horizontal.

As for the picture of the bike. The rules say (Right Trojan?)
It must be in front of a white garage door
It must have the drive side out
The chain must be in the big ring up front and the small cog on the back
The pedals should be horizontal to the ground
The valve stems should be hidden by the fork and rear stay

Welcome to the forum! All joking aside, I don't think a pic of your bike is 100% necessary. But doesnt hurt I have been losing weight due to DIET alone, well ok, some walking here and there, too. Spring should allow me to really get out on the bike(s) again and lose more.
You will find the Clyde/Athena section to be far more friendly than a lot of the areas here We are here to ride and lose weight/gain fitness, and we work as a team in supporting one another!
