Well, everyone, we've all been outdone. We're toast. Let's just hang up our instruments right now, because we're finished.

delete the "m." portion of the link after the window opens. I have no idea why it does that but it'll work after you do that.

OK, so I had a chance to jam with the grandson! He's 15 and just started learning the guitar. He's very musical, he has a good voice too. He learned to read music and picked up the lead from this Santana song. I'm not real familiar with the song so I just read the chords form the book and strummed so he cold play lead. He already has the thing memorized. Heck, it would take me six years to memorize his part.

Oh, his parents bought he other son a drum set but this guy just sat down and started playing them like he had lessons in another life.

This was the kid, not sure if you saw the thread, that signed up for a high school guitar class. He didn't have the money to buy an acoustic and said he was embarrassed because the teacher laughed at his inexpensive electric guitar. So I gave him my acoustic (seen in the back ground). He'll do much more with it than I could ever do! That teacher's got his foot in his mouth now!

You guys are real singers. Me, I can only get reactions from women by getting a tear in my eye while singing sad songs.

We are approaching about 140+ gigs over the past 7.5 years. The fun part is that we have seen (and sang in) places in Colorado and Wyoming that we would never have gotten to, and met people that were really great. Each performance is usually about 50-60 minutes of a cappella songs. We now have 60 songs in our repertoire.

Places like LaVeta, Genoa, Crawford, DeBeque, Lamar, Limon, Eagle, New Castle, WY, along with all the major cities, east and west sides of the mtns.

I've posted before that we watch the open mic nites at the local Sam Ash music store. I have made and posted a few videos. One has far more views than the others and I wondered why. Well on Wed the dude that runs it mentioned a FB page. So I checked it out an hey, there is the video I posted on YT.

It says something about a video "these people" posted. So I posted the other video and said, " hey, we are these people."

Today I had the itch to mess with this guitar that Gina had been bugging me to get. So we went in and the dude was with another customer. He looked up at me and said hey! Then he ends up asking if I was the one that posted the videos. Yup, then he said he watched the second one this morning and got a kick out of it (Johhny B Goode where the guitar dude eats it on stage).

SO I end up asking about the guitar and lets' say, I got $50 off. Then Gina says she wanted an acoustic too and swears she's going to learn. So she got a less expensive one but I walked out with a 12 string electric Fender acoustic.

He said he liked the videos and had to get on the ball with his FB page. I bet the videos will help. I plan to make a few more now.

Gina ran home, tuned it up and started practicing on her Fender acoustic.

Yippee! Growing guitar collection. All Fender guitars except the dark blue Peavey.

Gina said she had a vision and wanted her name on her guitar....chrome lettering.

Mr. B, I could hav quoted all your posts, but given the amount of them, I'm not sure which one I'd be responding to if I did it one at a time, so I'm going to address them all right here.

Congrats on the new 12-stringer. I'm sure it's a ton of fun.

Congrats on inspiring Gina to pick up the axe. The Squier's not a bad starter guitar! Great job on the little glittery "custom touch," too. It looks like you two are having a good time jamming!

Your talent far exceeds that of the puny, little "Gorilla" amp. It's time for an upgrade. May I suggest a Peavey Classic 50 212?

Last weekend (July 13th?) my nieces came out to visit and I spent about an hour or so teaching my niece a few licks here and there.

I have a Fender 212 in my room, twin amps and lots of effects. I bought it the day I bought the Fender Tele. It's much easier to transport the little one around the house and Gina doesn't need that much power yet.

I guess I do use the small one in my videos that show an amp but the vids in the bike room I made with the Fender amp. You just can't see it since it's close quarters and the camera is on the fret board.

I had another small Peavey that I gave to the grandson. They are small but mighty. I must say this little Peavey amp is pretty clean sounding so I like it to roam around the house.

What advice would you gentlemen give someone who wanted to learn to play? Where should they start? What guitar would you suggest?

oh man! I have heard different advice. Some say acoustic but have heard others say electric cause the fret board is smaller and easier to learn on. OK so I hang around Sam Ash at the Ontario Mills for open mic night but I do not get any kick backs, just know where good deals are. They have a nice Fender package deal (Gina got one). Fender solid face (?) acoustic, tuner, pics, strap, gig bag for like $199. It sounds just as clean as the 12 I picked up and nearly looks identical.

As far as learning, there are a ton of instructional videos on youtube. Plus ultimateguitardotcom. Search for a song and they give you the chord and/or tabs on how to play.

Her acoustic is the 6 string toward the front

Allrighty then! Gina is coming along pretty well. I thought she'd try for a week then put the guitar away. She started pretty shaky but now getting it. She's been playing about an hour 5 days a week. I'm teaching her short riffs just to get her fingers moving and a few easy chords. We'll concentrate more on chords later when her fingers are more flexible. So now she's playing the riff to "My Girl" while I strum the chords. She does well for a few licks then chokes but it's coming along well. She is very determined and she only yells at me every once in a while. Apparently I'm supposed to instruct her without instructing her. We went through this on the bicycles and she rides well now so it all works out in the end.

Last night she practiced for an hour and a half. Such concentration, she may some day be able to build wheels too!

She just needs to get some finger dexterity under her belt. Tell her to practice "1-2-3-4-3-2-1" on every string, then change up the combination. Then, start mixing different strings into it...working two strings, then three, etc. She'll be fine once she gets those fingers loose and moving.

Yup, pretty much what we are doing but without the 1-2-3-4, that's a good idea!

I have her doing short riffs and one has a two stringer. She wants to hit everything with her 2nd finger so I keep after her to use them all. She gets frustrated but she's getting better and developing a little more strength and dexterity in her other fingers.

That's weird she wants to use her middle finger for everything, but funny too.

The biggest thing when learning is to not pick up poor technique habits along the way. Once you develop a poor technique, it's very difficult to break it.
