Had a bizarre run in with a pickup last night...

I was just starting on my ride, and there's a stretch of road about 500 meters long that I'm apparently near the top of the leader board on so I thought... today, I'm going to see what I can do about shrinking the list of people ahead of me. It's a lightly used road that runs between a bunch of light industry buildings, not heavily traveled at all.

I was BOOKING down the road, probably around 28 or 29 mph and some pickup pulled onto the street in front of me from a perpendicular street on my left. So he basically turned in front of me and stopped - left his truck crossways across the whole lane. So I'm thinking wth and I moved over to the left to pass him on the left... right before I got to him he revved the engine, dropped the truck in gear and took off with a loud racket.

Meh. No extreme danger to me but it was disturbing and of course I ride down that street about twice a week (both ways!) It makes me want a go pro sooner than later.

I'm guessing it was Psalm's wife. Oh, sorry. Wrong thread!

Younger men in lifted pickups and SUV's were really the only group that hassled me when I lived/rode in the IE. Of course, I had a few teens in mom or dad's car drive by and scream at me too...

I dunno... the guy in the Accord who's mirror was almost removed by me seemed to be middle aged and otherwise respectable... LOL!

Be careful out there, TJ!

I'm starting to think Photojoe had his pickup repainted.

Similar story

I had a guy do something similar to me, well sort of. He pulled up alongside me in a hopped up Chevelle. Yelled something at me and did a burn out. I guess he forgot about the 90 degree left a little up the road. He missed the turn and ended up in the grass. Despite my better judgement I rode by laughing REAL loud. He heard me, gunned his engine again and proceeded to dig his rear tires in the mud. Probably needed a tow out. I didn't stick around to find out!

Another time a guy passed me and put his car across the road and shoulder to block me. As I rode by he asked what I was doing on that rode when people were trying to get to work. I said I'm doing the same thing. THis is a wide road with a wide paved shoulder. I was about 4 blocks from work. The guy worked in my group although I didn't know him. I presented a Bicycle safety topic at our next group safety meeting and went in detail about the incident. He was there. I didn't say his name but described his car in detail, a hopped up Ford Maverick.

I had a young guy slow down to my speed on a bridge and got very close to me. If I had been the one to over react, I might have gone over the side into the water. One time a policeman was in front of me at a yield sign. He went through and stopped in the intersection. He watched me (in his mirror) slow down and stayed there until I had to makeas full stop. Then he continued through the intersection. Besides be honked at a few times, for themost part, people have been nice to me so far.

Some people are ridiculously stupid but think they are smart. Pulling a dangerous stunt like that only confirms my theory.

I confess, it was me, using my truck to beat all your strava KOM's. Was letting you know I was in the area.

And here I could have sworn it was photojoe. Of all the nerve!

Ya mean an idiot in pickup truck blocked the road on you? Say it isn't so!

Comes as no surprise, really...

That is excellent! I often dream about something similar happening. I walk and ride to my office, which is in the corporate headquarters of my company. There are several parking garage entrances and several busy intersections near my building. Drivers who are in a hurry to get to work often don't yield to pedestrians and even blow through stop signs. I often comment on law violations and often get expletives thrown back at me. Across from my building is a big law firm that we give a lot of business to. I so hope that one day I walk into a meeting with them to find someone who has cursed me out after nearly running me over. "Take him off the matter or the business goes elsewhere. And send him to driving and anger management classes while you are at it."
