I think that's located at the top of the lifts.

It's looking like it will be nice and cool on Sunday!

I can't do any of the rides fully, I'm taking my son to an early movie. But I'll come by in the morning and see you all off.

Local movie times are 11:45 at the earliest. Start at 8 am, that gives you 2 hours to make the shack including stop time (easily done) 30 minutes home, that's 10:30. You still have plenty of time to stop off at the store to load up on goodies and can sodas to smuggle into the theatre!

AMC Glendora, 9:40 and 10:10. We're going to try and make the 9:40 showing, but no later then the 10:10. We're going to try and get there early before the really big crowds.

Oh and bless you for thinking I can make it to the shack in 2 hours.

Brush fire burning in Glendale, now. If the wind blows that way, I hope you all will reconsider. I can't imagine breathing that hard (well, jsigone and TH don't even get winded) in smokey conditions. GMR is currently open, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it close for the weekend.

Would you people put out your damn fire already? C'mon!

I doubt they'd close it for air quality concerns though, we'll have to make that call on our own. It is supposed to rain on Sunday (not sure when) which would go a long way to cleaning up the air.

Watching the weather closely. Not too keen on riding in the rain...or drizzle. I'm enough of a wimp on descents as it is. Not having any brakes at all is frightening.

I'm hoping that it is just drizzle down below and that we will break through when we get up the hill. I'll make the call Saturday night. It's a long drive from Palmdale to Glendora.

No, but they have closed it in the past during fire season in order to prevent fires and keep out pyromaniacs. When this happens, they don't let anybody up there, hikers, cyclists or motor traffic. Usually with a deputy or ranger at the gate turning everybody away. I haven't watched the news but hopefully this fire wasn't intentional.

This is what I was thinking.

This, I didn't know. I just remember the one "to the village" trip that was cut short because the awesome Mrs. Ahultin couldn't get the monster sag truck up the hill due to the road being closed.

Bicycling magizine just published a web article titled, "50 Rides of a Lifetime". The subtitle is, "We asked readers and staff to name their all-time favorite places to pedal. The result (in no particular order): classic destinations, must-do events, and two-wheeled adventures that should be on every cyclist's bucket list"

Number 42 on the list is, "California's Glendora Ridge and Mt. Baldy Roads."

This is the picture they posted. Picture caption is, "The climb up Mt. Baldy finishes with 15 switchbacks. (Chris Milliman)".

Link to on-line article. Worth a glance. Some I've done, some I'll never do. Link to Bicycling magazine on-line article titled, "50 Rides of a Lifetime"

Well, Glendora has a high of 71 for Sunday and the showers are supposed to be in the PM so keep your fingers crossed for some fair weather and an end to those fires in Camarillo. (just on general principle there)

I'm not expecting anything in the AM so we should be fine. If anything it will make the climb feel awesome and cool. Just pocket a light jacket if really worried. Braking in weather isn't bad, not like you're on carbon wheel right? I'm coming from San Deigo, about 100 mile drive one way....ehhh but the ride is worth it. Longer the ride the better

I'm not in shape to attempt this, (and I also live 2200 miles away), but I enjoy reading the ride reports, so good luck to everybody tomorrow.

Looks like 40% tonight starting at 10 pm then into Sunday to 10 am then chances down to 20% for a couple hours then back up to 40%.

Hope it changes back the other way or else....

Um, well, I'm in no shape either, but I'll find out how far how far up I can make it...

Excuses!

Weather.com has it 0% tonight, 10% from 3 am to 10 am and then 20% for the rest of the day. Not that I trust weather.com.

Regardless, I'm going anyway. If it's coming down cats and dogs I'll probably shorten the route but if it's nice and cool I want to see if I can PR that damn gate to shack segment, then go easier for the rest of the day. Odds are low though, I've tried before and come up short.
