Goat ride up GMR again, Sunday 5/5 cinco de mayo

Any other takers to ride up GMR? I know some have done the the shack ride two weekends ago.

My mission, if you choose to accept it

Long course : UP GMR, regroup at the shack, drop down "lil GMR" at the fork. Left on East fork, There is a campground there with a water source about 1/2 mile from the 1st hairpin. Refill then climb back UP "lil GMR", regroup then head east UP on GRR then drop into the village. Refill water, eat a snack then take UP GRR, and finally down GMR back to the cars. 60 miles and about 6837 ft of climbing and decending goodness https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/200184296

Short Course : UP GMR, regroup at the shack, drop down "lil GMR" at the fork. Left on E Fork to campground for water. Refill then climb back UP "lil GMR" then head West back down GMR to the cars 32 miles and 3488ft of climbing and decending goodness https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/200182022

Mini Course: just ride to the shack and decend back to the cars.

Ride time at 8am from the same meeting spot, Bring 3 bottles and/or camelbak + any food you need. Those that want to start earlier is fine by me, but I'm coming from San Diego and coupled w/ a long drive, a infant baby doesn't exactly let me leave on schedule.

Aaron, if you want to carpool, that's cool w/ me, I can put 2 on the back of the FJ and one inside for your son if he wants to tackle this. We can meet at the park n ride of the 76&15. If you don't want to do the long course, I'll give you the keys and you can SAG part of GRR if you're up for it.

Medium Course: Up GMR, regroup at the shack, continue on GRR to the village for lunch/snack, then retrace route to the start. 43.0 miles and 5246 feet.

Extended forecast shows low 90's in Glendora this Thursday and Friday, dropping to low/mid-80s on Saturday and a beautiful, cycling friendly 75 on Sunday. I'm up for GMR/GRR/village, but due to my fitness, not interested in "lil GMR" right now.

p.s. I like to park and start from George Manooshian Park. Plenty of off-street parking in a fairly safe area and gives a mile flatish warm-up before hitting that first "hill" at the equestrian park.

- - - -

Medium Course Plus: Add the ski lifts above the village. Add about nine miles and 18 billion vertical feet to the above.

I started thinking about the lifts this week.... I think lil GMR lifts would be too much but shack-village-lifts might be in reach. jsigone, any interest in that modification? It might be too hot by the time we get up there though, so I'm not sure. I think lesper bailed on the lifts lasdt week because of the temps.

Other thna that I"m in.

volo - why don't you start at the park at 7:45 and meet us at boulder springs at 8, we'll be ready to roll.

K. I'm in for GMR/GRR/village at least. When we get to the village, I'll see how I'm doing/feeling before deciding on the lifts. I'm going to forget the triple and go with a 34/30 compact. I'll be on one of my Pinarellos, blue/black/white or red/white. Not sure of the kit I'll be wearing, but will have my front strobe and taillight strobe at least, (I'll turn them off when in the group).

Again, the extended forecast calls for 75 in Glendora. That's the high. Should be a few degrees cooler at elevation. If that forecast holds, I don't expect heat to be our biggest concern. Two large bottles to the village should be enough, especially getting an early start. Coming from Palmdale, I usually don't get on the hill until noon or shortly thereafter.

I've been looking forward to climb lil GMR for a while now, I need newish pavement I haven't rode on in a while, just an itch. I'll need at least 40min to do an out n back to the camp grounds from the fork. I can do the optionally leg then meet back up at the shack, if no one is there, I can find you guys on GRR. I doubt I'll be able to climb well, I've been lazy since my race on the 13th

After yesterday...I'm thinking my legs just might rebel on me if I did GMR/GRR/Village (that's the route I would do if I went along).

Im a tentative/maybe

you have a few days to recover then test the legs on mid week rides. Kinda why I threw the short route in there. Only 1200ft more climbing then to the shack (2200ft) but not the full 5k ish ft to the village commitment and back.

Well, I'll do the lil GMR route with you then since you're pretending to be slow. We can regroup once at the shack and once more at the village, sounds good to me. This is a forced rest week for me since I'm out of state on a business trip.\

Except for little GMR, the nice thing about this ride is that you can decide you're toast at nearly any point and coast back to the cars. Mostly.

Too many maybes..we're out. I have at least 3 riders that wanted to do this ride with the Clyde forum riders. We planned our weekend around this ride so I'm not planning a long drive for friends around a ride that might happen.

Beanz, I'm in for the mini ride to the shack--I won;t guarantee I'll make it, but we'll give it a good shot.

I may be in depending on how my left shoulde feels.

I feel remarkably well rested after yesterday's ride. The inly thing bothering me us my left shoulder.

I can climb fine while sitting down, but if I try climbing off the saddle my shoulde starts to hurt. Also, descending hurts if I am on the brakes for too long. Other than these minor niggles I am feeling good!

Latest 10-day extended forecast for Glendora, (start location, higher elevations will be slightly cooler), 71° F for the high temperature with the winds from the SSW at 10 mph, (get a little assist on the way up?). Sunny with 0% chance of rain. (The previous day's, (Saturday), high is forecast to be 83° F., so there must be a trough in the jet stream dipping south over CA on Sunday., bringng cool Canadian air down into SoCal.) The weather's going to be nice for a ride on GMR/GRR/etc.

OK, this is what is going on with the group of riders I'm dealing with, after some off/on debates. We aren't goats so we will meet about 8 am, roll after suiting up. We will head to the shack at a slow pace. Herb, Alyce, Hillbasher, HerbM, Gina and I. HB hasn't been on the bike in months but that is the way he rolls. He will still smoke Gina on the climb but he loves to stop for pictures so he's usually around. Alyce does OK, Hubby Herb usually holds back for her and I stay with Gina since she's usually the last one up. HerbM is a much improved climber so he just may do another mile or so on GRR.

We won't even begin to try to keep with the fast guys like Trojanhorse and Jsigone.

But as of tonight, there is a 20% chance on Sunday so in our case, rain cancels.

jsigone could beat me up that hill on a unicycle.

I'll have to find my water repellant stuff for my sunglasses. if it rains I imagine it'll be a drizzle at worst and cloudy at best and both will make for a very comfortable morning on the bike. Since this is my last hurrah for a while I'm going anyway!
