Back Again!

Back in the saddle today for what might as well be the first time in almost 2 years. Real life (job, family, etc.) took priority while the bikes sat collecting dust in the garage. Managed to gain back all the weight (and more) that I'd lost over 4 years of bicycle commuting to and from school.

As a bonus - I developed diabetes. I guess I had been in "denial-betes" for so long hat my bad habits finally caught up with me. I've managed to lose over 40 pounds since December of 2012, but now I need to supplement my new diet with exercise.

I started with a nice ride along the MUP. I even had time to stop and take a pic of the newly-paved trail alongside the Thames River (London, ON).

So... I'm posting this thread in the hopes of starting a new healthy lifestyle that includes support from other BF members who have been where I am and have found success.

Ride safe, my friends!

Maybe put an odometer on your bike to measure progress and keep yourself motivated.
Plan a reward after 1000 miles, and lots of interim rewards for things like your first 25 mile day, First time you average 10 miles per hour for a whole hour....

Welcome back.

Welcome back Irclean !

I'm a new member and I'm newbie in English

You lost over 40 pounds since december 2012 =>congratulations

I don't have problems of weight but I take care of my body.
I commute since two years but I'm not very regular !!!

To loose weight, you must to work in bike between 60 and 70% of your heart frequency. You need a "heart frequency metre" to measure this.
You understand my English ?

Thanks for the encouragement, all. I do indeed have an odometer (on my cyclometer). I noticed the display was faded to almost nothing during my ride on the original post. Hopefully it just needs a new battery. All of my rides since have been done on my tow vehicle - no cyclometer, but great exercise considering the 75 pound (rider+bike) parachute behind me!
