First week on MFP: Back on "Trac"

First week on MyFitnessPal after ending my 14 month "affair" with Weight Watchers netted me a 3 pound weight loss, leaving me 22 more pounds to goal weight. The difference in the programs (for me) seems to be the extra 49 "points" WW gives a user every week - there's not a similar extra caloric binge available on mfp. Times when I am staring at that 17 point (600+ calorie) danish that I could have eaten on WW and cannot on mfp - - Yes, it makes me want to cry, but WW lets me eat it and mfp turns me away. Result? Back on "Trac".

So here's the 20 month overview: I started at about 300 pounds in August 2011. I lost about 25 pounds on exercise alone thru January 2012, then joined Weight Watchers. WW gave me 40 pounds of weight loss, down to 235. My goal weight is 210 and I have decided to use mfp to knock out that last 25 pounds. First week on mfp = 3 pound loss, so 22 to go!

My main riding partner and best friend just got me onto MFP. I used to say no way would I EVER count calories. I've been eating a big dish of crow for the last 2 weeks. Down 6 pounds. Usually my weight loss floor is 260 pounds. My weight jumped between 260 & 270 for all of April. Basically a net zero for the most part. I had started to watch my portions. Weight and measure stuff. MFP truly opened my eyes.

I don't trust the calories that it generates. I don't know about other stuff, but for cycling it would be 1.5x what my Garmin would calc (and I thought that was high), and then there was Strava... I've linked Endomondo to MFP so it automagically gets entered for me when I upload it. No needing to fix exercise calories.

No longer am I trying to outride a bad diet. I've heard that somewhere before...

Similar story here. My wife was trying to get me to diet for the past 4-5 years, but I would resist her urges. Then found MFP. I thought that I would just log calories for one day for fun. Realized I was eating way more than I thought that I was. I have stuck to my diet since then.

Yes, the MFP exercise calorie calculations seem off to me as well. I started MFP July 2012 at 279 pounds, and currently weigh 189. I am 6'4'". Not really a Clyde anymore, but I still like reading the forum here.

I just use a 35 calorie per mile ratio on MFP, on long, hard rides I add in 35 calories to the total and go with that. Endomondo says I usually burn several more calories, but I would rather "stop" myself from eating what I burned and feel bad because I went over 100 calories from what MFP has told me.

Currently I am down 18 lbs with tracking food and workouts.
Looking forward to my winter commuting adventure.....
