AnyBody with This Go Pro Problem?

OK, so I bought a GoPro early December (9th). We were out Christmas shopping so why not a present for myself?

It was so cool that right after Christmas Dec 29th) I suggested to Gina it would be nice to have a second to pan around on rides rather than just fixed on the handlebars. She says cool!

So we look around and I can't find a GoPro2 anywhere. I wanted the same model to keep things simple. Best Buy, nothing, other places nothing, everything is now Go Pro 3. So I hav eto go with the Go Pro 3 White series. Supposed to be better blah blah blah. More features, more lights, more buttons. Things I didn't want but I have no choice.

So everything is fine through the month of January. About the 7th of February I get two clips that have short sections of a pink shade covering the video. I take it home, remove SD card and battery hoping it clears up. I did a search on the issue and it seems it had been a problem in the past with a few customers. Go Pro replaced the recorders. But I try the recorder and it seems fine. Another weekend goes by and it's fine.

Another week goes by and this weekend, I get 2 more vids with pink! Feb 17th. as suggested by the search I save all the pink videos as proof for Go Pro. I contact them and they respond suggesting that maybe the first upgade of the firmware did not take well. So they suggest I do the upgrade manually. Great! Now I have an email and a huge page of instructions on how to do the upgrade manually.

Format the SD card, do this, do that, don't do this step, do this, if this, if that, you will have this or that then it will say this, if not, do this then that, then it will say that blah blah blah!

So I do all the stuff and give it a test try, seems fine but then again, I thought it was fine after the first time I removed the SD card and the battery. So now I won't know for some time and a few rides whether or not the problem is solved. Only time will tell.

I did however save the pink footage on youtube. I'll need to post pink videos for GoPro to view if the problem continues.

I did get a comment from another you tuber I met on a ride. He says it happened to him once. He reupdated the firmware then the problem vanished. Hope I am that lucky!

I knew I wanted another GoPro2 (not a GP3) for a reason! The GP2, just open the box and it works. GP3, update this and that blah blah!

Anybody else had the pink problem, did it go away completely?

I will update later if anybody is intrested

Maybe you shouldn't let Charlie Brown operate the camera.

As an aside, don't stall too long before deciding to return the camera (if you do). It's better to return it and buy another one if you're concerned. If you got it at Costco I think you have 90 days to return them now.

This one came from Target. I didn't think of the return though. I'll deal with it though now that I already started a trail with the serial number and all. It is a bummer but if worse comes to worse, I get a replacement one!

I did tell them I was disappointed with the camera though. I told them I bought the GP2, chestie strap and other mounts and now I have to deal with a defective camera. Just to hurt their feelings ha ha!

I don't have the Hero3, but my riding partner Matthew had a few seconds of pink at the beginning of some Hero1 footage from one of our rides. At first I was like "oh sh_t!" because it just happened to be a clip we wanted to keep (steep singlespeed climb), but the pink went away after a few seconds. It was also during the descent, so no worries.

I had an entire mtb ride recorded with no sound once on my Hero 960 (good thing I was also recording with my helmet-mounted ContourHD!). I formatted the card after that, and from my Google searches I found that other people had that problem when they pressed the record button too soon after turning on the camera. Now I wait a few seconds after the power-on beep before pressing record. No more problems so far.

BTW, the audio on your Hero3 sounds excellent! MUCH better than the Hero2, so you can make some good-sounding videos now

Also, I bought a second Hero2 about a month or two ago for $199 at REI. As of a couple weeks ago they still had them in stock.

I have my GoPros set on one button operation so I don't have to mess with on and record, just one button and it's going baby!

OK, now are you saying that in a generic sense or from the sound of my videos? If from my videos, how do you know which is which since I alternate them? Or maye it is just something I don't hear since I've never really had good hearing

I do use the skeleton back door now since the threat of rain is gone. So maybe that's why you hear a difference if you hear a difference in my videos now.

Now you tell me! I like GP2 more.

But thanks for the feedback of your friends camera and any in the future with mine!

I can tell the difference between Hero1/2, Hero3, and ContourHD audio. I've never owned a Hero3, but I've watched plenty of footage from other people who have them. The aliasing present in the Hero1/2 cameras is absent in the Hero3's audio. It's good, clean sound like a camera should have.

If I'd known you were looking for a second Hero2 I would've given you a heads-up

Ah I see. I probably don't hear well enough to tell the difference. Heck, I wear earphones to listen to the vids I make. If I listen to the external speakers, I miss a lot.

I went to Best Buy with no luck. They looked in their system and not one BB or their warehouse had them available. I looked on line and saw a couple places that said thy had them in stock on line. But I'm not crazy about ordering stuff on line with certain things. Maybe I should have but I was a little cautious as to why they would have them and the big chain stores were telling me they were no longer available and I'd have to go with a GoPRo3. Oh well, it's done.

If I am not mistaken, I think REI was one of the online sites that said they had them available though I did check the local shop and they were sold out. That's what I get for not being patient.

My local Mike's Bikes (chain LBS) also had them for $199. I chose REI because I'm a member there and I enjoy looking around in there for other goodies.

I'm not a member of EI but when I do shop there, I give them Hillbasher's name to ge the credit points or whatever it is they do.

I bought my Garmin 500 there, some tires, chains, lights and a few other things. Hillbasher does lots of outdoor hardcore hiking sleeping in the snow type stuff so the points get used well .

Kind of funny, the cashier sees a Hispanic dude giving a white dude name! Uhhh OK!

Not points. Just a straight 10% dividend paid yearly. Membership is $20. Spend $200, and you get it back. Probably the best $20 I've spent on gear etc. Not to mention the members only sales, and 20% off coupons etc they send you throughout.

Hahaha thanks! My vids are just plain ol meet the people type videos. Nothing fancy like the special effects you use on your vidoes. Maybe someday I'll be that advanced.

Sure seems like a ccd issue . Quality Control issue too. Look at all the examples on YouTube.
