Weeeeeellll... I was going to register but they aren't handing out numbers the night of, so I would have to go somewhere incredibly inconvenient Friday afternoon (in LA traffic! No!) so I'm going to crash the marathon crash. Not only that, apparently you can't register anymore. I guess it's hard to be underground AND organized at the same time . Their little diagram identifies two start areas - number with timing chip up front and just number in back. I presume there won't be much organization, ergo we can hang with the numbered, non-chipped crowd.

Is that right?

Saw on Facebook on Wolfpack Hustle page:

UPDATE 8:30PM MAR 4th

I REGRET TO REPORT THAT
THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED.

Today. the Chief of Investigation and Enforcement of the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services made contact with Wolfpack Hustle and demanded that this event be cancelled or we may face criminal charges and bear liability for the costs of enforcement. This comes as a shock and disappointment.

We have requested an expedited permit be granted but have been told initially that it is not possible at this point for one to be granted. Therefore we have no choice but to fully comply with the city's demands and we strongly urge that everyone obey the city's request not to engage in this event or any like it.

Though unpermitted, this event has enjoyed the support of the LAPD and city going into it's fifth year now, Wolfpack Hustle has been cooperative, and had sought to partner with LAPD and all agencies. We've met with and cooperated with city officials on several occasions. For 2014, we've taken further measures to ensure that the participants are safe and to prevent any claims being made on the City of Los Angeles and other cities and agencies, via waivers, participant / competitor separation, and by purchasing event insurance.

This event has been in the planning for at least one year, and builds on a community tradition referred to above. To threaten criminal prosecution 5 days prior to the event taking place comes as a shock and disappointment: The city is now demanding permits and payments where it has never done so in the past.

THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

-Roadblock

How shocking, the city wants money.

Vic, what time is your ride on Saturday.

And yes - thanks BG - there's no mention of it at all on the wolfpackhustle page.

Anybody up for GMR? Lifts? I have a new cassette I need to try out.

Ah Crap!!!! We've been looking forward to this for a year!

However, what you read there is the legal disclaimer to cover Wolfpack Hustle. On Monday, check out YouTube for all the videos of a ride that was "cancelled" from all the riders who "weren't there". This started as a crash race, and will live on as a crash race. Yes, the lightweights like us won't be there, however, the hipster/fixie crowd will be there in full force.

They charged a pittance, provided some secondary insurance, paid for the eventbrite people to handle the money and probably had most of it earmarked for a permit, which they didn't get.

"Hey, can get we a permit for our crash event"

"you can't do your event without a permit"

"Yeah, we know, can we get one"

"It's too late to get a permit and we will spend public money and resources harassing you with legal difficulties if you attempt to ride on public roads that your tax money has already paid for so don't even think about it."

Oh I'm aware WP isn't trying to see profit outta the event, they want a smoother/safer event. LA suits only see dollar signs and don't understand (or care) the structure behind pulling off a event or race.

The funny thing is that they hide behind a liability smoke screen but the odds of anybody in that event suing the city for anything incurred during the event are crazy slim.

Where's azusa to whittier narrows? I assume the lower dam on SGRT? I haven't figured out where I'm riding on Saturday yet. What time are you guys hitting the pedals? *sigh* I think I'll drag the family out to SART for a family ride from the Big A to the beach on Sunday.

Anybody up for a family ride? I'm looking at you @PhotoJoe.

TH/PJ, a ride to the beach sounds good too--what time would you roll on Sunday? I suspect the ride I'm talking about is the lower dam to Whittier Narrows (was invited, but have never ridden it). I'll pay a schedule as soon as I have it.

No clue! Probably noon or 1 or something. it's about 27 or 28 miles there and back. Something to get the kids pedaling (they go about 13 average)

I'd love to, but we have a family dinner Sunday starting at 3. That rules me out.

Great question! I haven't been up there since May of last year. That was my last ride before surgery on my ankle and if I recall - you were late. I set a PR trying to get to the shack before you caught up to us too...

It was a far drive plus I always seem to be late for rides. And yah that was the last time I was up there too. Wonder if I can break under the 50min mark now...

80% chance I will be.....The first ride I went on with the group, I thought I was running late then saw @ahultin black dually in Chino hills. Figured they won't leave without the sag wagon so I can put it in cruise control and followed
