Minnesota, a great place to ride

I found this secluded spot when I pulled off the road for a break on a training century. It was only 50 yards from the road but you couldn't see it because of trees and terrain. I love this area with hundreds of these little lakes tucked in between rolling hills. Many, like this one, aren't even named nor do they appear on a map.

Very nice. We see the best things on a bicycle.

Where were you in January? :D

I'm biased, I like MN, even in the winter.

Southern Minnesota was some really nice places to ride. We go up a couple times a year.

I live in MN year round. Last year I put in 200+ miles every month during the winter, but we had a dry year with excellent roads. I did OK in January this year, but February, March and early April were awful with lots of wet snow, ice, and wind so my rides were pretty much limited to short jaunts on good roads close to home. I've ridden in temps down to -14F and really enjoyed it.

Root River Trail looks like a great place for a long weekend. I'll have to get down there sometime. I've been on the Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox Trails further north and they are a good time as well.

As they say, there's no bad weather, there's only bad clothing. I rode my road bike in snow once... that was enough for me. made it about 100 yards and walked back home. :) skinny tires + snow = no.

Free protein and no empty wrappers to carry out :thumb: BTW, winter riding solves that problem.

That pic makes me want to renew my fishing license and buy a 6 pack.

I'm back home in MN. No leaves on the trees by the big lake yet and Spirit Mountain still has snow on the ski hills. I am scheduled to ride the Paul Bunyan Tour of Lakes Saturday and probably am going to do the short ride only because (1) it is going to rain, (2) it is going to be cold, and (3) I am untrained and my knees hurt.

Exactly. Lanesboro is the best town and has nice places to stay and a couple of very good restaurants. Green Gables Inn is highly recommended. The road riding is good in the area too if you want that... But the trail is paved.
