100 Mile Plus + Club: June Edition.. Ju Ju Ju Juummpp on your bike, roll & RIDE!!!!!!

Ah June! Heat, humidity (at least where I am at) and a lot of great days to ride. Some rain.... warm of course.... and a lot of fun. Time to RIDE!!!

This month, lets break the mold and challange ourselves. Maybe it is 500 miles for you. Maybe it's more hilly rides or perhaps a metric century or even a century. Maybe its your first 20 mile ride. Lets do it folks.

So this month, post your goal miles PLUS one other goal pertaining to riding.

WHO'S IN???

Iron Chef: 350 miles.
Challenge Goal: Commute more days to work versus driving into work.

Just barely ticked my 330 mile goal for May. 20 commuting days in June, so I'm in for 350. (I'm bound to miss 2-3 days commuting and will have to take some long weekend rides). My secondary goal will be to set new records on all of the segments in my commuting ride, set a new overall time record and average speed record.

Since I failed May badly I will up the ante to 300 miles for June and not fail. I will start Saturday morning with 15 even if it is raining tornadoes and little girls from Kansas. The rest of Saturday is lost to a blood donation. Reverse blood doping probably is a bad idea...

There is no excuse. Just doing 50 mile weekends will get me 80% of that total.

Last month my goal was 160km, which I easily achieved. I'll put myself down for 400km this month. I'll also shoot for a single ride of 50km+. My longest to date is 33km.

I met and did slightly more than my May goal of 220km so this month I'll aim for 275km. I'm going to aim for a ride from my house to Sidney which is just about 50km return.....I haven't done that long of a ride yet this year so I'll aim for that by the end of the month.

I met my goal in may with some room to spare, time to challenge myself. I'm shooting for 200 miles this month. I hit 115 this month and if I didn't have a loose crank that I don't have the tool to tighten it up or the time to get it to the bike shop to have them tighten it up I would have had more. Besides going for 200 miles I'll be doing my first 40+ mile ride this year, (and I've only done a 60 mile ride with 8 hours in between the first and second half). The total miles is 47.6 miles and I hope to have a great ride from Pleasant, OH to South Charleston, OH and back. I will have time to get my bike in this weekend to get the crank tightened and get the necessary tool, but I won't be able to ride because it's supposed to rain, and I don't like to ride in the rain because of the maintenance required after that ride.

Beat my goal for the month in May, but didn't quite make it to 2 Strava badges. But I like Chef's challenge goal, I'm gonna do that, so at least 10 commutes out of the 19 work days I have for the month. But since my commute is about 27 miles round trip, I'm going to set the goal a bit higher and since I'm training for an early July tour, gonna add at least one long ride too.

Carbon Sean: 400 miles
stretch 1: more bike commutes than driving
stretch 2: bring in a metric century
stretch 3: do the LBS novice ride climb (750ft) without stopping for air (questionable)

I am going to throw my hat in for 450 this month. While not huge, 275 (IIRC) was my goal last month and I will hit 370 by the end of day today, so lets go for 450!

Plus I have a organized 50 miler for Sunday, first organized ride of the season, with some folks from church. Although I might talk them into the 70 miler instead.....we will see.

I've got some weekend events for one or two weekends this month so I'm going to lose some miles there and no bike events that helped put me over 600 in May. I think 500 will be pushing the envelope. I'm also going to start working on climbing. I've dropped under 250 for the first time that I can remember as an adult so that should be a big help in the vertical department.

Last month I did 750 Kilometers for the May Massive. Most on my skinny tires. this is the time of year to escape pavement and ride more trails.

250 miles of dirt! yeah baby, maybe I can find me a rattlesnake to wrangle!

May was a horrendous month. Severe hip pain, a lack of motivation and personal issues all ganged up to keep me off my bike.

Still dealing with some stuff, but hope to have a better June. Goal is (only) 200 miles, and I'm going to challenge myself to ride more days than not this month.

This month I am not going to have a climbing goal nor a century/metric century goal. Just a total mileage goal to earn a 750 km Junedoggle Strava badge. The climbing seems to come with the mileage. Since there are five weekends in June, and that the semester is over and I don't have to teach at night, accomplishing the mileage goal seems somewhat more realistic than last month. I really had to push last month to get that 750 km badge. The kicker is that my lady friend is having hip replacement surgery, and will need my help. That will cut into my riding time somewhat.

Bad news from my doctor this morning. He is putting my on hypertension medicine. Just a very mild dosage. There is a history of hypertension in my family tree, but with the amount of exercise I get, I didn't think I'd have to worry about it. Also, the diabetes is not controlled very well and he want me to lose six pounds in six weeks. This news is causing me to really think about when I want to retire. Sound like it should be earlier rather than later.

June goals:
(1) ride 466 miles/750 kilometers
(2) lose six pounds/2.7 kilograms

yearly goal: ride 3,107 mi./5,000 km (259 mi./417 km per month), behind schedule
climb 118,110 feet/26,000 m (9843 feet/3,000 m per month), way behind schedule

I was over 900 miles for the month of May, so I'd like to see if I can bag 1000 miles in a month. If not this month then at least sometime over the summer.

Now that the snow is melting in the high country, I need to get some altitude and do some climbing. The magic number this month seems to be 10,000ft. Tomorrow, I'll be riding a metric century to Leadville, CO. Leadville is at 10,000ft but the turn-around for the metric is just short of that. Temperature at the start will be in the 30sF and overnight lows in Leadville will be in the 20sF. I better bring my woolies. I'm signed up later this month to do a 75 mile ride with 8,000ft of climbing and reaching over 10,000ft elevation at a few points along the route. I'm only at 117,000ft elevation gain for the year so I'll need to do some prep before that ride.

One challenge I have on my bucket list is to ride my fat-tire bike from my house at 5700ft, up the Gold Camp Road and a forest road to 10,200ft and return via single track. I may delay that ride until July or August, though. I tried to see how far I could go on a warm day earlier this year but was turned around at 7700ft by deep slush and ice.

The big mountain to the west has been taunting me but I don't see a realistic attempt at Pikes Peak until I can lose another 50lbs. Maybe next year?

Man I really slacked in May, down to 150mi. from 400 in April! I'm gonna get serious with the meals and workout plans from scoobysworkshop, ditch the soda and eat less junk food I really want to get down from 240lb.
I have plenty of goals unrelated to cycling but I will aim for 600mi. in June! Let's Go!

Well I'm riding for 500 miles again. But I'm resting tomorrow and there is only 30 days in June, so the plan looks like 20 rides of 25 miles in 29 days. Should be a piece of cake; but life never seems to run that smooth. Initial short term goal will be to get to 1000 miles year to date quickly, then the monthly total of 500. Hoping to have at least four months this year of 500 miles each.

I'm aiming for 100 miles a week, so 429 for the month (30 days in June...).

Other goals:

1. Ride the 100 Miles of Nowhere (it's in the 90s here today, so I'm doing it next Wednesday--one of the perks of a flexible work schedule).

2. Do more climbing - last month I did about 13,000 feet of climbing in about 350 miles (not counting commuting miles. I signed up for the D2R2 115K in August, which has over 8,000 feet of climbing, so I need to get more practice on the hills.

So far, 19 miles today, a slow ride in the shade with my wife. Year to date: 1128 miles outdoors, and 354 miles on rollers with resistance during the winter (especially February--I did a fair number of rides outdoors in January this year).
