First serious crash. May be walknig for a while.

First the good news- Hit 217 by yesterday morning, then went on to finish my first metric http://app.strava.com/activities/57621587

After eating and resting up, I got back on the bike for the two mile ride to the bus home (was in no shape for another 25). 2/3 of the way there I found myself on a collision course with an old lady who I am certain just did not see me. I took evasive action, zigging when I shoulda zagged. I hit the curb at a glancing angle (curved portion at intersection), wheel was forced left, I did a superman to the right. I landed hard on my right side; contusions to right knee, elbow and hip, plus a dented helmet (I am a believer). Road rash to knee and elbow, Lycra spared the hip.

Got up, used the last of my water to rinse the wounds as best I could, and rode to the bus stop. Transfer point was at intersection where my #1 lbs was located, so I stopped to have the bike looked at, and he offered me some hydrogen peroxide. By this time the knee was stiffening up, and I was completely walking the bike.

Finally got home, after a quarter mile walking the bike from nearest bus stop. It was at this point that my shoulder started to hurt. Now, next morning, I have almost no pain free mobility in my shoulder and am afraid I may have torn my rotator cuff.

At least the knee is healing.

Man, I'm so sorry to hear this. Heal well.

Bummer, glad it wasn't worse!

I can so see this happening, especially after you're first Metric Century. You're a bit tired and distracted from your accomplishment and boom.

Get well soon and congratulations on the Century!

Sorry to hear, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Bad luck. Sounds like you need to get in to see the doc. Heel well. Congrats on the ride. That's a lot of climbing for a 70-miler.

Heal up my man. God bless you. I hope all is well with you. Congrats on the century!

Congrats on your accomplishments. Very sorry about the accident, though. Hope you heal and are back on your bike quickly.

Rest up and get well soon! GJ on your ride!

Sorry to hear about your accident! I hope your shoulder is just in pain and not actually damaged. Good luck healing up.

I say more than likely your OK. its normal to feel really beaten up after a crash, for the first few days. Trust me, I have crashed a bunch. See if your shoulder doesnt feel better on day three.

WonderMonkey 06-02-13 07:23 PM

Hopefully you have just stoved yourself up real good and that's it.

Thanks all for the good thoughts. Back from e-room and the verdict, after x-ray, is very bad sprain. Off the bike for a week to a month, not the months I was sweating. In a twist of irony, met bro at dads house after e-room visit, and guess what?

That is great news. Sorry that you and your brother are having problems. Try to make sure that you move that shoulder when you can so that you don't lose range of motion.

Congrats and sympathy in the same thread. Both well warranted. Take care of yourself, get well and get back soon.

Congrats on NOT having a break or tear. When you get back on you may need to adjust your position. I broke my shoulder a little over a year ago. I'm still trying to figure out what works for me now. If you are only sprained it should be easier for you.
