A voice from days of Yore...

Hello again!

Old Rollerdave still exists! Come on, pick your jaws up off the floor, you'll get carpet lint in your mouths.

Anyone still even remember me after my lengthy absence?

Oh the stuff I've been through....

But I got Eagle (my Lightfoot Magnum recumbent trike) all tuned up and ridden today, and for the first time in years I was feeling pretty upbeat and hopeful about the whole thing, so I decided it was time to reconnect here.

Those who DO remember know that I could fill a thread with a novelization, so I'll keep it short.

I've been living in a town of 50 people for a few years and just moved into a slightly larger town that affords me the ability to get out and ride more. I got married last Nov 5th, we're expecting a baby sometime around Aug 1st.

I was nearly 500lbs when this odyssey began, I got down to 350, but towards the end it wasn't a healthy thing. Moved from Minnesota to Michigan, gained back probably 50 or 60lbs of it.

I had been ten years in a chair, very glad to have gotten out, haven't had to use the thing at all. I might not walk/ride as easy or as fast as everyone else, but I move pretty good for a guy my size/age.

Well, glad to be back, and I'll be on more because I missed posting here.

Peace out, Rollerdave

What are we supposed to do with this?

Glad that you are doing better. I always like hearing about others journey through life. Keep the pedals moving.

500 to 350? Nice! Congrats on the accomplishments and look forward to hearing about the ongoing journey.

If you registered after 2009, and consequently don't remember the saga of my recumbent trike and the meltdown of my life that caused me to be absent for a while, you don't have to do anything you don't want to. I was hoping there's be a few of the folks I remembered and this was an attempt to flush them out and reconnect with the board.

Thanks! When you lose everything, sometimes you give up bits of yourself. Getting back into riding is kind of like taking back parts of myself, and it feels good to tell people who also appreciate riding.

Well, after my ugly breakup I fear I did regain some. I'm around 400 right now. Still nothing to sneeze at, eh?

My question was rooted in the wording of this

"I was nearly 500lbs when this odyssey began, I got down to 350, but towards the end it wasn't a healthy thing. Moved from Minnesota to Michigan, gained back probably 50 or 60lbs of it."

To me, it reads that losing 150 lbs. was not a healthy thing and that you are happy that you are back at 400 lbs.

Ahhh, ok. good question.

The last 30 or so lbs were a crash loss due to losing my spouse, I didn't eat or sleep and lost it in 15 days. THAT was an unhealthy way to drop weight so I don't like counting it.

I'm definitely not thrilled to be at 400, I plan on dropping more now that I'm back on track and am interested in seeing what I can do.

I AM happy, however, to have kept most of it off, even though I have not been putting forth the effort I know in my heart I should be and am capable of.

My ex dropped 145lbs, and then she was a 27 yr old 6'5" redhead weighing in at 180lbs. she got all kinds of attention she'd never had before and it changed her. I recently found out she gained every ounce of it back.

While I do feel a trace of schadenfreude, I'm mainly sorry to see that she wound right back up where she was so very very unhappy.
