Ready to Buy...Which should I get?
I'm going to get a bike tomorrow. Thanks to you guys, I feel like I can really do it. I've been procrastinating for a LOOONG TIME.
I found this guy today... he is selling a trek 7200 https://cnj.craigslist.org/bik/3895314153.html
and this guy

I haven't rode in like 10 years. Which would make a good starter bike?
A guy in the LBS tried to sell me a Trek Shift 1, but he also was really discouraging about ANY other bike being "good for me"

IMO, the Giant looks a bit more fitness based so if you want to get your groove on, I'd go with that one with my personality.
First one a bit too cruiser, too laid back, too utility for me.

My suggestion is to get whatever bike fits you and that you would enjoy riding. If you are not familiar with bikes you may want to bring someone to help you look over the bikes.
Judging by the pictures they both look to be in good shape, but you never know. Go for a test ride and let us know what you decided on.

I think the second one looks much more bike like... I expect mary poppins to hop off that Trek.
Having said that, whichever one appeals to you (and fits!) and will get you pedaling the mean streets of NJ is the right one for you.
Why was the bike shop guy discouraging you?

I find some of those cruiser type bikes to have an odd fit, you end up in such an upright position that all your weight is on your butt. It can make it awkward for riding anything but flat rides. It can make it hard to find a comfortable saddle for anything other than short rides. At least, in my opinion.
Sometimes it is hard to tell what is the most comfortable when you are only going for short test rides. I am with Beanz, I would lean more towards the Giant rather than the Trek, assuming that they both fit comfortably.

The giant will offer more when you have a few rides in and offer longer. The main thing is to ride, get on and spin. You can use the difference ($$) for helmet, bag, extra tube etc...

If one of the two has a lockout on the suspension fork, that would be the one I'd go with.
I am a fan of the upright, cruiser-style bikes. That one doesn't look like the pedals are set way forward, which is what puts all the weight on your butt and makes you go slow. I like the upright bikes because I have a big chest and I can't breathe when I have to lean down for the handlebars (probably also why I don't like the suspension fork, at my weight it just goes into its lowest position and stays there).
Anyhow, you should probably try both, unless you totally fall in love with the first one you look at. If you can, take it for a ride around the block or up and down the street because you can't tell how the suspension will behave until you're riding for a little while.

Sooo I got the Giant Boulder SE. It seems to be in great condition. The LBS did a quick inspection and said it looked good.
Should I get a "tune-up" before riding. I'm so nervous now.. UGGHH
