1st ever 500 mile month.

Last nights after work commute put me at 505 miles for the month of July. My original goal was 1 Mm (1000km). I still have five days to get there, but no big push. It gives me something to shoot for.

Last nights after work commute was one of my twice weekly 32 mile extended rides. http://app.strava.com/activities/69361925 I have also done two weekend rides of 50+ miles. Fifty or sixty this Sunday may put me over the Mm mark after this afternoons 10 mile mini extended commute, and eightyish miles of commuting by Wednesday.

When I started back cycling in 1999, I averaged less than 1k miles per year until about '06 where it jumped to about 1k miles per year. Interestingly enough, I didn't really loose any weight during this time. In '08 I actually made up my mind to loose weight, and my riding went up to an average of about 2k mi per year. It has been slow, and there have been backslides. (My wife actually fought me on the weight loss for the longest time, and has only recently accepted that I am going to do it. Now to get her to stop talking bariatric surgery nonsense on join me living right.)

I bought my Aluminum road bike two years ago this month and have put 5200 miles on it, 2008 of it this year. Three thousand miles this year is going to be an almost done deal. Maybe I should shoot for 4k in 2013.

Jan-156 mi
Feb- 93 mi
Mar-246 mi
Apr-321 mi
May-355 mi
Jun-331 mi

Nice! It takes alot to get in them kins of mile!

I've been slacking but my best ever was in 2005 with 960 miles. I wussed out and should have done the last 40 to make the 1000, but I wussed.

Total that year was 7300 miles. Probably the only advantage of working night shift, alone time to ride.

OP: Congrats on such an achievement. I just started riding actively April of this year after a year of on and off riding and my odometer just rolled over 600 miles-right on track for my end of the year goal of 1,000 miles I think. My goal for this month was to try for 300 miles in a month but seeing how I haven't reached 200 yet, I don't see that happening in a week but I'm not giving up.

Great job, that will be my next goal, thanks for the idea. I have not even broke 200 a month this year, couple 400 last year though.

Thanks for all the comments. Training for a very hilly (6200 ft) Century in Oct. I'm starting to feel a lot better. I did sixty two with 3200 ft last weekend. I'll be trying for close to 70 tomorrow.

Great job. I was aiming for 250km this month and have done just over 425km so far. Of course having the great summer weather here has helped. We haven't been having our summer gloom and rain. Makes a difference. Good luck on getting the 1000.

Congrats on that! Im yet to get to 500 and I'm not even a clyde anymore (i shouldnt be posting here jk 197lbs). Oddly my first month riding was the month i had done the most (403) until this month 471. There was a month when I rode 0 miles and a few that wouldnt go over 50 since my motorcycle accident in december. Keep going and you will reach 1000 one day .

Good job!
I can relate somewhat.
I got my hybrid 2 years ago this month.
I'd started off the month with 15 miles the most I'd ever ridden in a day.
On July 2, I put 165mm cranks on my "grocery getter" (86 Rockhopper with rack, fenders and rear folding baskets) and did 30 the next day. The previous longer cranks were giving me too much knee pain.
I was totally spent, but quite pleased.
I kept at it, but the heavy bike was still a drag. I then decided to get a hybrid. Found a 2008 Specialized Globe for $170 at the pawn shop.
Changed the cassette (and picked up another 165mm crank) and started riding.
I did 50.1 the last day of the month with a monthly total of 607. The previous month @ 120 was another PR.
Last summer I spent behind the keyboard doing my findagrave.com stuff and the miles went to zilch.
Broke my tib & fib last Oct., so i'm still rehabbing.
Going take a rest day tomorrow and then ride till I drop Wed. (or when one of my leg parts forces me to quit)
Goal is 50.2 or more, for a pr. If I don't die first, maybe ride my age?
