8/04: 15.4 miles - Los Gatos Creek Trail

It's going to be a very busy month for me. I won't be able to do many weekend rides, and I'll be out of the state for nearly 2 weeks visiting family (and attending a conference for work) back east.

I'll be happy if I can get 100 miles this month. Most of it will have to come from commutes.

8/1 - 39 miles
8/3 - 60 miles

Maybe 300 miles by the end of the month is possible. 400 if I get ambitious.

You are right about that.

The shoulder is slowly getting better. I decided against the cortisone shot and instead had some sessions with a physical therapist. That really helped. The shoulder now hurts mostly when I climb out of the saddle or when I try to sleep on my left side.

Today I took the Bottecchia out for a spin down PCH and on to Neptune's Net.

Got my bike on June 2 at the age of 67 and after approximately 40 years of not riding a bicycle. In the June I ended up with 115.2 mostly painful miles. Last month I ended up with 241.4. So far this month I've got 60 miles. So, based on all that, I'm in for 400 miles.

after a few to many days off due to being a bit sick and family commitments I went out with a 20 mile route in mind, first half was into a pretty harsh head wind and then my route hit some pretty heavy road construction that took away my comfortable safety margin in my shoulder so I changed my route a bit which cost me my extra mile... it was getting pretty dark by the time I got close to home so I just called it quit. overall it was a good ride... my two 20oz water bottles are almost enough to get me though 19 miles in the mild eve TX heat, I'm loving the way the bike rides, I need new shorts that fit better... for some reason they decided around mile 8 to bunch up right in the center front area of the saddle which caused some pain until I stopped to adjust... going into the city next week in hopes that Performance or REI has some fat man shorts that I can try on... the falconis just never fit me quite right :-/... still a good ride

also saw these a few miles into the ride and had to get a shot

My goal of 600 for the month might have just gotten a bit harder. It's raining all week here so I've got to get some serious mileage once it stops raining.

https://app.strava.com/athletes/162132

8/1: 26.9 mi
8/2: 50.5 mi
8/3: 36 mi
8/4: Rest
8/5: Rest
8/6: ??? Hopefully something but it doesn't look good. Thunderstorms are supposed to be all week.

MTD: 113.4 mi

I'll make next weeks 200+ mi weeks.

I slept later than I should have and rode 21 miles. When the temps start to rise, I'm ready to go home. More miles and conditioning will help that!

I didn't participate last month. It was a crazy month. We opened a new branch office, and I was heavily involved in that (IT Manager). I did manage to get in 257km last month despite that though. This month I'm going to shoot for 500km.

Got out for my first ride in August today. I did a ride to Sidney for lunch. Just about 58km round trip. I won't be able to make as many km this month as I did in July but I'm going to try to get to 350km.

8/5: 14 Miles - Test rode a possible new route, that includes more hills but unfortunately has less shoulder and more curves. A high-risk riding area that I don't think I'll ride again.
8/6: 19.4 Miles - Extended my regular route to do a loop before a free concert started at the town park.
8/7: 7.2 Miles - Short ride as thunder storms were expected today. Crazy crosswind caught me coming and going though, so even though I only went 7 miles it felt like 10. As soon as I parked my bike, the sun started shining and it still hasn't rained - oh well, there's always tomorrow.

MTD: 81 Miles

Yesterday was a rest day that wasn't restful at all; I helped out at the food bank and ended up getting really tired. When you're over 60, that happens.

Anyway, I really wanted to do more miles than I did, but 22.4 miles will have to do for today. The ride was a teeny bit slower than I wanted for it to be; the front derailleur cable slipped at the derailleur and I was stuck on the smallest chainring on my triple setup. That really limits the speed I can generate! Fortunately, this happened when I was about 2.5 miles from the end of the ride. Gonna go fix it right now!

I have to work tonight so I thought I'd some more miles in late morning. I did 32km along the waterfront. A beautiful day but the wind was strong coming home. It was hard to keep the speed up.
