New rider saying Hello!!

Greetings! I've recently picked up cycling to drop a little (lot) of unwanted weight. I stumbled across this site and quickly became addicted, spending hours reading old forums. Thought I'd join and get my foot in the door. I am currently riding an old 29er mountain bike, and logging around 50-60 miles a week. While this bike gets the job done, the large low pressure tires seem to add a lot of unnecessary effort. I am in the market for a nice hybrid or possibly a beefy road bike. Being 6'4" and a little over 300 lbs has always made me skeptical of those skinny road tires. Anyway, any tips or suggestions on how to become a more serious cyclists are greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome. I started on a hybrid (Trek 7300) and switched to a roadie about two years ago. Don;t be too scared of the skinny tires. If you have the right rear wheel, the tires a usually OK.
