Snapped my first spoke :(
Like the title says, I snapped my first spoke ever on my ride home last night. Wheel was a 2 week old 32h Alex R450 with a Formula hub, came stock on my first road bike. Interesting part is, I was on the smoothest road of my route, freshly paved with nary a bump. I decided to try sprinting a few times just for fun, and on my second pull one of the rear drive side spokes went right at the hub. I had been hearing a bit of clicking coming from the back on my ride earlier, kinda wondering if that was the spoke starting to go.
I'm well into clyde territory (225 lbs) but I am legitimately surprised that a wheel that new with a good amount of spokes had one break so soon, especially since I've never broken a spoke on my 32h MTB wheels that get beaten on way more than my road wheels have ever been. Replaced the spoke for now, but contemplating picking up a 36h wheelset (http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...0052_506872_-1). Any of you bigger fellas care to provide any insight/related experiences? Think it was just a freak accident, or should I really invest in some beefier wheels?
