Awesome! I've been doing this since July 31st. I don't go to the doctor and won't ever go on cholesterol or blood pressure medications due to seeing too many family members having bigger problems from the medication than what it was fixing. I do have a "wellness check" every year at work through the medical insurance and my triglycerides were sky high and blood pressure was on the high end. I hope to keep riding until Thanksgiving, but will probably be more just through October and can't wait to see if there is any improvement on my cholesterol numbers.

I'd go to the doctor just to see what the numbers were if it didn't cost me an arm and a leg even though I spend a fortune on medical insurance. Medication would be no cost to me, but the visit would probably be a skipped house payment to pay.

Not my business but do you know how much having a stroke is gonna cost you in more ways than one
I understand what problems the meds can and have caused for me first hand
but having a stroke is real ugly and most of the time permanent

I hate to be the guy (actually the third) to say it, but a stroke will cost you much more than preventative care will ever cost you.
Which is why medicine is shifting towards preventative care (lifestyle changes blah blah blah) instead of treating illnesses.
Hospitals are kicking patients out "Quicker and Sicker" because insurance companies are refusing to pay, which means going to a nursing home for ''rehab'' or going home and being a burden on your family.
I work in a hospital, ironically I work directly with stroke patients.

If $$ is a concern, find a Nurse practitioner. They are cheaper, more focused on YOU and not your illness.

Congrats SammyJ. Since starting to bike regularly, my BP also came down and is in the normal range again. My last checkup granted me a clean bill of health. Giving up fast food, soda and increasing exercise has been the best decision I've ever made! I still eat junk food once in awhile but moderation seems to be key in my diet and overall health.

Good for you, SammyJ!!!

From some of the responses, I wonder how people lived, in the past, without prescription medications and constant visits to the doctor!

Less processed foods, more active life styles, and shorter life spans. Many people died from things that are treatable today, like diabetes, high blood pressure, or even strep throat.
