New to forum

Hi everyone,

I am new to Bike Forums. My name is Cameron (Cam), I introduced myself in the main forum but figured I should do so here since this is where I will be hanging out the most. I am a 36yo, 400 pounder Clyde looking to get back into biking for fitness and fun. I love riding, and always have. I have a Trek 830 Mountain Track XL that I got back in 1994, it is still holding strong but I am beginning my search for my next bike. I had the tires on my bike switched to road tires at my LBS (assuming this is "Local Bike Shop", I have seen it on the forums a few times) since I am riding on the road more than off road now. I am of course more nervous these days that I will break a wheel or something on my bike but that doesn't slow me down any. I love the feel of the wind in my face and the challenge of the hills. I am looking forward to getting back into shape and into riding again. I just got my 9yo daughter really comfortable on her bike and want to be a good example for her. I am a single dad of 2 children, a 9yo girl and a 5yo boy so making time to get into a routine will be part of the challenge.

Anyway I don't want to be too long winded. I just wanted to say hi to everyone!

Howdy and welcome! Yes LBS is local bike shop I started at a similar weight to you, and biking has played a big part of my weight loss.

Welcome to the forum. This is a good place to ask questions and get encouragement.

I'm trying to lose some weight, too. I figure I'll do that if I ride more and eat less!

Good luck and happy riding!

welcome welcome. everyone here has the same story. fat and out of shape with a goal to get healthier by riding. Some folks have lost incredible amounts of weight. It's always the same basic story. Eating better quality foods and getting regular aerobic exercise while not compensating by eating more food. It isn't easy to change a lifetime of poor eating habits. That's an understatement. It's not fast and it takes work but for those that enjoy the process, the results are exciting and life changing.

Welcome. My highest weight was 305, and broken spokes were an issue. Investing in a professionally built wheel is worth the money. I had it done on my old Trek 7.2 FX, and the frequent broken spokes went away.

Remeber, exercise alone is not the key, it is just one element of a better life style. Good Luck.

Welcome and best of luck. That older Trek will probably hold up for a good long time, they are pretty bombproof. I dug out my 1995 800 about two years ago after it had been sittting for at least ten years and it got me back into riding. 2 years, about 100 lbs down and now 9 bikes in the basement. It's an addiction, but a good one!
Enjoy.
