So while leaving early to get my 1 year old son to the doctor Sunday morning I was backing out of a parking spot in a non-lit area at a cottage we were renting with some family in Door County, Wi.

Side note- VERY beautiful place and thoroughly enjoyed the hills while I could.

Back to the tale, I backed up into a tree. While that itself isn't bad, the fact that BOTH my bikes were on a rack was. I bent the crank gears on the MTB which I fixed today, but the Schwinn didn't fair so well as you can see. However, since we own the CR-V my wife and I will just get a payment from insurance to fix it and our rates won't go up (accident forgiveness). So the SUV will be fixed and I might be looking at a new bike.

But there is a part of me that is weeping, this bike meant a lot. There was a lot of miles on it and a lot of weight loss made. I might try to straighten it and use it on a trainer in the house only.

Good note - no one was hurt other than my pride and Gertie!

Ouch. I had a bike swing off the rack (the quick release held on the front fork but not the tie down for the rear wheel) and take out a window in my car. The bike was fine, the window was destroyed. I was lucky because I was driving on the hwy when this happened and it could have been much worse.

Condolences on the injuries to the bikes but congrats on the fact that nobody sustained any personal injuries.

Are they going to replace the engine too? 'Cause it looks like you're pumping diesel into your CRV...

Thank God no one was hurt--and a good lesson learned. I'd rather smash one of my prized bikes than one of my prized children (ok, they're all prized, but don't tell them that...lol).

I hate the few brands that use green for any flavor of unleaded!

If the bike doesn't survive, hang it on the wall as a testament to "the early days", then go take advantage of the killer sales going on right now!

I already told my wife I want to drill holes and run Christmas lights through it and hang it on the wall. She said as long as the wall wasn't in our current place she was OK with that. So it will get stripped and stored, good ole Gertie meant too much to me to just turn over to the junk man.

On a good side note, I might be making the MTB into a drop bar setup! I got a killer deal on this donor bike....FREE!

Ha, I didn't notice the pump cover. But that was a gas only pump, weird that it would be green. But not surprised because we were so close to Green Bay and the Packers.....
