I decided to take a mountain bike ride today. It was a whopping 10.5 miles. It was as hard as 30 miles on the road bike; when I was through, I was TOAST. You can read about it and look at the cool pics here.

Goal: 200 miles
MTD: 76.4 miles

took the short night ride... the weather has dropped pretty big here in TX, I saw one of those bank type signs that said it was in the high 50's... after about 10 min I didn't notice but once I finished and got int he house I could tell I'll need thicker socks if I'm going to be wearing those spd sandals much longer lol ... with the weather change I think I might be pushing more rides with the sun up.

I used to MTB... hope to get back into it once I'm in a bit better shape... but you're right... at least in my experience a 10 mile loop was more difficult then a 25-30 mile road loop (even when using a MTB on the road)... but I still think the ultimate biking is some nice flowing single track on a hard tail, just flying though the woods

perfect weather for a ride, mid 70's and clear with low humidity (something like 60%)... with most of my rides being later in the eve or at night I did notice that there is a lot more traffic and people not paying attention as their cell phone is far more important... I used the ride to stop over at the LBS and talk to them about having a wheel built for my bike tour in May which is always fun to stop in and chat ... also apparently I set a few personal records on strava, funny how on a ride where I had the screen off most of the time and not paying attention to going fast I end up setting personal records.

It was a little cool today, but a lot better than it will be in a few weeks! I rode 21.6 miles at 15mph avg. My average speed has increased a bit; I have gone from mid 13s to mid 14s to 15+. I was sick as a dog in Sept. but in getting back on the bike, I'm going faster for some reason.

Goal: 200 miles
MTD: 98 miles

200 seems reasonable. First ride was roughly 20 miles a couple days ago. Hopefully 30 milers are doable with a new saddle since the stock Fizik is causing numbness.. which has never happened before. That 20 mile ride was cut short because of that. 2 30 milers a week for the duration of the month should put me right at 200.

It was another great day to ride. Too bad I had to change the oil in my daughter's car and try to get the cooties (viruses, trojans, malware, etc.) off her laptop while she's visiting.

I took a different route today that had quite few climbs and it was really windy. I'm glad that I got to take a short ride (12.6 miles); it's a LOT better than no ride!

Goal: 200 miles

well after my ride on Tuesday (10/8) I got a package in with stuff to finish up the road bike build ('83 trek 560)... it also had some cone wrenches that I'd been waiting for so I could pull apart the disc truckers rear wheel and check why it's been dragging... found the cone is in pretty sad shape and no one in town has the cone or bearings in stock... so I rushed to build up the road bike, finished it up today and took her on her maiden ride... a few rough spots, I'm going to look into it tonight and hopefully get it sorted... because I was dealing with an unknown bike I took it out a bit earlier so I had some sunlight for tweaks as I rode... because of the time it also meant that I ran into a lot more stop lights :-/... but comparing this ride to my other rides along this route I rode at a faster speed if I didn't count the slowing/stopping for lights... also a bit amazed at how twitchy the bike felt (should compared to a touring bike I suppose)... also noticed how big of a difference in Q factor between the bikes...

overall a good ride but I've got a lot of tweaking to do to get this bike to where I want it.

This week has been nothing but cold and wet. In a fascinating turn of events, I discovered that riding in cold temperatures below a certain point hurts my teeth (when breathing with my mouth open). Perhaps it's balaclava time. As if I didn't look idiotic enough out there...

Between the cooler, damp weather and plain laziness on my part the only two rides so far this month have been 10 days apart. I need to start kicking myself in the rear and getting on the bike more often, before winter gets here. Well the forecast looks great this weekend, and I've got two rides planned out: 25 miles tomorrow and 50 miles with a friend (or solo depending on his schedule) for Columbus Day. Next week is looking to be another wet one, however, I hope to be able to get in a couple training rides to prepare myself for a end of the year century, we're planning to ride 100 miles but with my current fitness level I think I may only do a metric century to end the year.

10/1: 13.104 Miles
10/11: 19.656 Miles

MTD: 32.76 Miles(Goal: 200 Miles. I won't even attempt 300 again since not making it the past two months)
YTD: 1075.617 Miles(Goal: 1,000 Miles. Raised to 1,500 but I don't see that happening)
