Clyde No More

Man...I haven't posted in this forum in a long, long time...I saw it in my bookmarks and figured I'd stop by.

This past spring I had an attack of gallstones and acute pancreatitis. After having my gall bladder removed I developed a "hemorrhagic pseudo cyst" which is internal bleeding/hematoma, and spent another three weeks in the hospital. When I was admitted I was 240 pounds. I was NPO for the the first ten days, clear liquids for two more, and then low fat hospital house diet. After being discharged and losing the water weight from the IV, I was down to 185.

185! That was my wrestling weight in junior high.

I'm now almost four months post discharge and I'm still in the 185 - 188 range. I have been forced into better portion control and am still watching fat content. Two weeks ago my surgeon cleared me to start exercising again. I've only been for two very short rides, but at least I'm back in the saddle.

BTW - I'm 6' 1" so I guess I still qualify as a clyde...

Wow, what trials! Sounds like you have a tiny ray of sunshine from all that - good luck as you retake up cycling and keeping the weight off.

I have a long way to go, but I definitely prefer dieting and exercising over your way. Congratulations on your good health and I hope it stays good.

Thanks! 2013 has been a long, crappy year...and we still have a full quarter to go. On the bright side, I got out again today. First time I've had back to back riding days since May.

Yep...I wouldn't recommend this weight loss method to anyone.

I'm still a clyde by height, too, and if I'm not careful and keep getting sent on business trips with lots of awesome food I'll be a clyde by weight again.

Even if you had an unconventional method of losing the weight... Good luck on keeping it off. It's too easy to start putting it back on. Hope you can get in all the miles you want. I've been out in weather and temps I normally would avoid because I know it's almost trainer time. I can only imagine the reaction I get out in my tights. :O At least it gets dark early and the blinkies can distract everyone.
