New personal best

20.01 miles in 1:41.

I won't lie, the last mile was killing me. I must have looked odd to my neighbors, riding along gasping / chanting "I will not wimp out" in cadence with my pedaling. Took one short break at about mile 12, and climbed my favorite bridge at mile 15.

Good job! Looks like a pretty flat ride - it is Florida - but a lot of intersections that might slow you down.

The trick to a PR is a nice flat, smooth road with little in the way of traffic or intersections - especially stop signs. Of course a good tail wind helps.

Also set a best time on a mini-sprint that is part of my regular loop. I'm #1 of 3 (slow) riders on that segment. LOL

lol i've got a segment on strava that I'm waiting for everything to align on for a new PR... it's a 3+ mile segment, nice and flat and only a few stop lights... I've come VERY close to beating my PR (which I had a nice tail wind for) with neutral wind and catching the lights just right... I'm a faster rider then I was when I had my PR... but haven't made up for the lack of tail wind... that day will come ;-) lol

to the OP... looks like a nice ride... I always love riding near the water (other then the headwinds I get sometimes doh)... looks like it was a nice exploratory ride meandering though neighborhoods and such (I can see it's towards the end so looks like you where just pushing to get those last few miles lol)... those have always been one of my fav types of rides since I was a kid, get to know and see areas you never drive though...

good work 20 miles is certainly nothing to sneeze at :)

Congrats Matt! Keep striving to get stronger and faster.

Congratulations on the PB, Matt! Looks like a nice ride and doesn't it feel great to go that distance? You aren't the only one getting odd looks from chanting- I'm right there too saying some very odd things :) And sometimes singing- out loud and badly!

Keep it up.

My first century I struggled to hit 12mph. Three weeks ago: 18.4.

Keep it up ! :)

Congrats. Now go beat it.

Congrats man! I actually upped my PR for average speed today. 20 miles @ 16.2mph. I have been doing a lot of road riding lately and just for fun I went back to my old trail today. Since it was cold, hardly anyone was out there and I got to get some speed in. I guess the road riding has been speeding me up and I didn't know it. The roads I run have a lot of chip seal asphalt I think they call it. Very bumpy and high resistance, plus a lot of hills. The trail is flatter concrete the whole way. There are a lot more sharp turns on the trail, but there are also some spots where you can flat out get it on a long straight away with no one around.

Well done, Matt! You're a lean, mean, pedaling machine.
