For those of you who don't recognize this, it's one of those human sized dryers outside water rides at disneyworld. I reckon you could line up about 500 of 'em and i'll just ride through.

jsigone 12-12-13 03:56 PM

haha I saw those at Legoland last week...and I don't see you towing that on the back of your bike. Don't get any crazy ideas that I'll tow it either :p

Even with you towing that, I'd never be able to keep up!

I got knobby tires now, I'm sure you can keep up and give a couple pulls :thumb:

With the wife working trough the holidays and being on call.. I'm in. I just hope the cold weather gear gets here on time from uk.

1242Vintage 12-14-13 10:56 AM

I'm in for the challenge. I'm working through the holidays so should be able to get most of the mileage just by commuting.

Strava Festive 500 - who's going to take up the challenge?

I'm not only doing the challenge again but am aiming for about 680 miles this month to hit 4000 for the year. I'm at 237 miles now for month. Have some of my riding planned for the festive 500 that should be helpful to exceed 500k and help me meet my crazy goal for month

the fly 12-17-13 08:29 PM

I'm tempted to do it. That Rapha badge may be the only Rapha anything I can afford.

Me too....the coolest thing is it is one Strava challenge you get something tangible

hammond9705 12-21-13 10:57 AM

Ok, who is in? I think that I am. I figure that I would need to do 45 miles per day for 7 days, which would give me 1 day off.

I'm visiting California so am likely to have decent weather. 45 miles a day is long but doable (did 36 yesterday)

Ataru074 12-21-13 03:25 PM

got the most important thing... the gloves. my jacket is stuck since the 15th in Chicago going through customs... my 3/4 thermal shorts too... but the weather in Houston won't be too horrible... I might need to pickup just a wind jacket and something to keep my feet warm.. I hate when they get cold :(

I think my wife got me the sweetest thing for christmas.. a garmin, so I'm upgrading to be a fred.

SeanBlader 12-21-13 08:16 PM

I'm going to give it a shot, have the time off, and the weather doesn't look like it's going to be terrible. It's a lot of miles, in a short time, and will be even tougher since I'm a fair weather rider and haven't been on my bike since like Thanksgiving, other than the few miles I rode today.

SethAZ 12-23-13 11:58 AM

I'm doing a midnight ride tonight, that will count toward the Festive but I'll get to go to sleep after that and wake up and ride again but with an extra sleep cycle thrown in for the slight recovery advantage. I did it last year too, but this year my buddy is coming with me. It'll probably get down to the 30s or possibly low 40s, so I'm planning on layering up like mad. Let's hope it's enough.

Let the Festive Riding Season commence!

62km 1,354 meters

http://app.strava.com/activities/101630805

This is going to be harder for me than I imagined. 2-3 hours is really all my back has in it, coming off the herniated disc like I am. To really ensure I hit 500 I would need at least a couple 4-5 hour rides, if not longer.

jsigone 12-23-13 09:11 PM

nice first leg into the ride :thumb:

I saw what you did this morning... Nice work.

I headed out at 6 am, had all kinds of warm clothing laid out last night but the outside temp was 57 or so and it's supposed to get up to 70 today so I said nay nay! vest and warm gloves only.

Unfortunately, the temp took a dive when I got to the river trail - I was shivering and staring at that thing reading 40 degrees until the sun came up. At the turn around point, it started to warm up but that also meant the santa ana finally kicked in so yep - stiff headwind all the way home.

50 or so miles, that's the longest ride I've done since Sept. 1 and my legs and neck are complaining. :)

Ataru074 12-24-13 03:07 PM

First leg for me... 108km flat like a pancake :( , was feeling pretty damn good today. ( the weather was absolutely outstanding )

Thanks it was a fast one:speedy:

I knew it was gonna be in the 70's by noon, but was 36* at the start. Did warmers, vest and ninja mask with a fast start so I don't get numb. Sheded the ninja mask about 45min into the ride as the sun was higher.

90 mile at 20mph ave for the ride. http://www.strava.com/activities/101750116 Few Cannondale pros out there even w/ a chase car. MRI guys, lots of upper tier Spy guys and Wolfpack riders. Was fast n smooth, over 100 riders and good communication in the group. I was sooooo freaking happy I didn't get dropped or ever on the verge of getting dropped, there are a couple single file gate crossing that yanked the group into single file. It was a good all out sprint to find a wheel to get back into the group. Main sprint point after the power plant was 40mph near the back, I'm sure it was 45+ at the front, my buddy got 2nd so some pro Spesh guy. Speeds were a solid 5mph faster then our saturday club ride:twitchy:

I did 36 miles today in Monterey Ca. Weather was beautiful and I wish I had time to do some more miles. I'm here visiting my parents, and the riding is great. This route is beautiful along the ocean, but very flat. I have another route that is much hillier through Carmel valley.

Hopefully I can cover more distance tomorrow to get back on track

I must have just missed you guys... I started back from Seal beach north at about 7:40 so I probably passed the park right before you took off. Too bad, I was NOT A FAN of the wind at that particular moment. :)

You'll notice that your record is still safe too... I thought I was doing pretty good too, but no. ;)

I may do a short ride Christmas day with Junior but Thursday will tell me a lot as to whether I'm going to be able to complete this thing.

hammond9705 12-25-13 03:21 PM

Another beautiful day in Monterey. Upper 40s at start but it warmed up to mid 60s. 51 miles today to get back on track. That gives me a total of 141km/88miles.

Merry Christmas everyone!
