I've got to say, dropping 60 pounds is encouraging! I'm still around 280, but rode a little over 3,000 miles this year. My big goal isn't so much cycling related, it's too finally eat better, including planning meals and cooking at home. Clearly the eating is the big component for me, because you'd think cycling over 3,000 hilly miles should have some impact on my weight, but I must admit to feeling hungry every 3 or 4 hours now that I'm more active and to eating extra poorly because I figure I'm burning some calories. :/

We're moving to a new place a little further out, so my commute will be a little longer, but I've given up on trying to go to back to college 5 days a week and work 3 nights a week, so I think my commuting mileage is going to roughly balance out. Mz I look at my eating a bit different. I say to myself that I'm working too hard to ruin it with bad eating. Sure I've had a couple snacks over the year like at birthday parties or special occasions but even then I try to limit just how much I have ate. My limiting factor this year was inflamed knees. I pretty much had to give myself 1-2 rest days after each ride to rest the knees. I'm taking some supplements now and hopefully come spring I will be able to ride consecutive days on a regular basis. If so my mileage will be significantly higher next year.

I can empathize with that statement! I would state the same for myself, but since my actual off-road MTB got stolen this year, and I'm hoping to find the exact frame I'm looking for and build it up, so I will (hopefully) be buying one more bike. I will scrap a couple of old frames this year to make a freak bike, so in the end my total N number of bikes will decrease slightly, at least easing the storage burden slightly. Ever so slightly.

It doesn't help that I've had some serious personal set-backs this year, which has weakened my resolve, and I also transferred to a department that almost every day there are cookies or cake or pie or something sitting out for everyone to eat. Not that I made any progress on my weight before that, but I'm actually afraid to get on the scale right now, I fear I've gone backward. I think I'm going to have to have a fairly strict no sweets policy for the new year, at least at work. When there's huge platters of cookies and I'm working all night long, its easy to keep coming back for more.

At Least 3 Centuries
Do my first SR series (I've done several 200Ks, but all the longer distances will be new). Increase my average speed on long rides (doing a LOT of interval speed work over the winter on the trainer -- hopefully it will pay off).
I'm not dieting ever again, so I expect my weight will be around where it is now, or a bit higher if I put on significant muscle, since I'm also working on upper body strength (which doesn't really help on the bike, but I want to do it).
1800 miles, and a 350-400 mile bike tour.
Just get riding again. New job last year basically killed my schedule and fitness. Goaliemom & I have already committed to two charity rides (April & June) in order to focus us on getting back in the saddle!
I'm barely going to complete 5,000 miles this year. Next year I hope to do better. So far plans are Spokane, WA Tour de Cure 100 in May, Seattle to Portland in July. Planning to race another complete season of CX next fall. Goal is to actually train for that.
These goals are already a work-in-progress, but here it goes..
- Complete at least 3 centuries by the end of 2014.
- Obtain my AS degree by summer. I've stalled on this for far too long now.
- Shave off another 10-20lbs this year. Maybe more.
- Join the FHP and complete the training.
- Run a 10k+.
- Compete in racquetball tournaments. There are players who have played the sport longer than I've been alive..
- Build my first set of wheels.
- Move a portion of my savings to benefit my future. And start saving a larger percent of my paycheck.
- Increase my lifts (bench/DL/squat) by at least 30%.
Not planning any target. Hoping to be able to use half the income tax refund in the spring for a bike. If I can't, I don't think the old Walmart job will handle much more than about into June. I'll be fed up with being stuck at 12 mph and not being able to put any torque down on the pedals by then unless I can get my new bike with the tax refund.
If the new bike can come, then the goal will be something like 300 miles per month for about 6 months at least (April through September) and goal weight of 190 at the end of riding season since I didn't hit my goal of 200 by Christmas and I've been stagnant at 215-220 for the past month and a half.
Ride at least 5000 miles. this would probably produce 200-250 Kft of climbing
Get my weight down to 185. I'm probably 195 now or a bit under. 6' tall.
Use longer rides to move my comfort zone up from 100K to Centuries. I'll do several organized rides, but none more than 3 hours from my house so I can avoid staying over.The Grizzly Peak and Sequoia centuries would be good stretch goals, but both have about 10,000 feet of climbing:(
7000 miles and lose 30 to 50 lbs. I lost nearly 40lbs in 2012 then went through a lot of difficulty in 2013 and gained 15lbs back. I've lose about 10 of those in the last month and I'm back on the plan to keep losing. Aside from my cycling performance carrying around 250lbs is destroying my knees and at 71 years old I've got all the problems I can handle
I have committed to doing the Wildflower Century in April. I am starting from basically very little bike fitness and the last time I rode 2 months ago I only could go 15 mph or so. I ended up crashing my bike and couldn't ride for a few months but am now healed enough to start training. I work a lot so will only be able to ride on the weekends and occasionally a lunch ride. Along the way I hope to lose some weight as well, but that is tough to do when I am training.
Tours: 5 days on the KATY Trail.
Weight: I'll still be a clyde, but maybe not as much of one.

I'm just getting started in riding and I'm 63 years old, but I need to do some serious riding to get some weight off and prolong my health. I'm 6' 2" and about 280 but otherwis ein good health (strong heart, never smoked, etc.), but I like to eat and I have a sedentary job (editor/writer). I work from a home office so no commute.
I'd like to lose 50 pounds this coming year and I intend to do quite a bit of riding and diet adjustment to accomplish that. I have a Cannondale hybrid that I'm going to use for riding with my wife on river walks, etc. I'm going to put fenders on it and try to force myself to ride even when it's raining. I can throw my clothes in the washer when I get home, so not a big deal. I'm going to buy a second bike (road bike) for riding longer distances. I've been riding motorcycles for decades and always use a nice day as an excuse for a ride but I want to program myself to make some of those bicycle rides instead.
I'll play. I have 5 physical/biking related goals for 2014:
1.) I'm in a weight loss challenge with some of my touring friends - lose 30 lbs by May 3
2.) ride my first imperial century, probably July 4
3.) WOMBAT (Wheels Over Michigan Bike-A-Thon) tour in August - 250 miles/5 days, having fun and raising money for an eye and dental clinic in Haiti
4.) Race (against myself) in the Iceman Cometh in November
5.) 225 lbs. by 12/31/14, which would be 110 lbs. from where I started in March of 2013
A minimum of 100 miles a week from April to October. Shouldn't be hard, commuting by bike 99% of this time period (1% being absolute emergencies)
My first ever imperial century/self-sustained tour in July!
Continue training for my big 8day 400mile tour in 2015. Earlier this year I was planning on doing this in 2014 but finances won't allow it. 2015, it will happen.
Weight: Down to 160lbs.
A few things I need to do on my bike between now and April (the "official" start of the riding season up here):
Tune-up - noticed yesterday my rear brake cable is frayed and I need to re-tune the gears
Buy & Install bar-ends, new pedals(tired of my feet slipping off them when my shoes are wet or dirty-plastic platforms) and a rear rack
