2014 soon, what do you have planned?
I would love to see a few targets set in this thread and perhaps we could revisit them when the year is almost over?

Miles: 4000
Feet Climbing: 150,000
Weight: 178lbs
Complete four 100 mile rides

Looking to raise 1000 for charity as I'm riding from London to Paris next June, this is where the extra miles are going to come from. I'm on for 2000 but spent 5 months off the bike.

What about everybody else?

bs63366 12-21-13 02:39 PM

Miles: 3000
Weight: 200lbs
At least one century and start bicycle commuting to work.

Cychologist 12-21-13 02:43 PM

3,000 plus miles.

First Century since by five bypass surgery.

Get below 200 lbs.

LabRat2k3 12-21-13 03:13 PM

Mileage goal 1500 miles
Weight goal 200 pounds

I plan to do a supported ride a month from May to October. Tour de Cure and a couple of local rides. Also going to try to do a weekly club ride too, never done one before so I'll see how I like it.

10 Wheels 12-21-13 03:15 PM

Early March 2014:

Houston TX to El Paso TX 1120 miles in 18 days.

indyfabz 12-21-13 05:32 PM

I don't really count miles. Quality over quantity.

Some plans: Annual 3-day spring tour from Port Jervis, NY to Philly. A tour across PA, likely Youngstown. OH to Philly. Maybe a week or two at a "cycle camp" in Italy. If not, maybe 9 days of touring in Montana. Annual New Hope to Brooklyn ride.

the fly 12-21-13 08:56 PM

Miles: 10,000
Weight: 225, then reevaluate.
Ride 20 miles in 1 hour solo.

Currently @ 250, and not sure I can get down to 200 w/o losing alot of muscle. I'm going to have to ride a bunch to get back to 225. Really have to start watching diet. Also can't let myself get behind on mileage goal like I did this year.

jeepseahawk 12-22-13 05:11 AM

Not like my lazy 2013....
4000 miles
200,000 elevation gain
210 lbs from 240
at least 5 bucket list rides checked off (to be determined)

rumrunn6 12-22-13 07:15 AM

new job and lose some weight

Roadrash3 12-22-13 08:32 AM

My riding sucked in 2013, i looked at my garmin numbers and was only at 500 miles. I signed up for the death ride this year, i plan on riding 4000 miles this year and losing 30 pounds . Death ride in July, Levi Leipheimers ride in Oct. Should be my best year every on the bicycles

WebFootFreak 12-22-13 09:23 AM

I didn't start riding and tracking my saddle and foot times until 9/15. That being said as of today, I have 237mi in the saddle, and 70mi on foot and 172 minutes on my recently acquired POS exercycle that I am trying to run the bearings off of, lol! I have gone farther, but this is the data I have from tracking. I will get more miles before the end of the year, plus I have my first organized event (4k) since 2000. I've dropped from 279lb to 256.5 as of my weigh in this morning. I've been considering my yearly goals for next year, wanting to keep it challenging without being impossible.

1800 miles in the saddle (no spin time). I figure 150 miles a month avg is a good goal. Oct was 134mi (my best).
360 miles on foot (walk and run). 30 miles a month.
Drop to 225 lbs. Like a poster above, I already have a good bit of muscle mass that I do not want to lose.

So far I have a 5K, Duathlon (2mi, 15mi, 2mi), and Sprint Tri (.25, 12mi, 3mi) planned for next year. I'm kind of ticked that Tour de Cure Memphis is right after the Tri. The Tri is a goal, whereas TDC is a want. My calendar is open after May. I'll see how I like the Du and Tri since I don't really like running. I'd love to find a 40-50 mile bike event relatively near, plus something in Florida in October since we're planning a family vacation there next year.

leeinmemphis 12-22-13 12:37 PM

I'm right at 2500 miles for the year and hoped for 3k. There's lots of reasons but I have no one to blame but myself for not making the last 500 miles. I've lost about 60lbs and have got myself into decent "starter" shape. I still have a long way to go but feel like this year I did pretty good. I did manage several accomplishments but also had a few goals not met. First ride of the year was 7 miles and I thought I was going to die lol. Longest ride of the year was 88 miles. I had to drop out of two rides. Both were heat related exhaustion but one of them was the MS150 and I was really devastated to have not finished the MS.

For 2014 I hope to
ride 5k(4k is probably more realistic)
signed up for a 5 day tour
this year complete the MS150
at a WI rally to be able to handle the long rides
I'm at 225lbs now. I would really like to see me below 200lbs.

fietsbob 12-22-13 01:37 PM

Making it to my 67th birthday.. (Likely still, hovering around just under 200, 30 more than when I was 30)

JackoDandy 12-22-13 05:09 PM

I plan to re-find my "Eye of the Tiger" :). I have/had been riding solidly since 2010 and lost 30lbs and loved the riding, tech and social aspects of riding. Then in 2013 things kind of fell apart. Redundancy at work, legal issues, and it seems sickness over and over again - I am almost 50 after all. Ive been solidly fighting a miserable cold since late October, It finally started leaving and this AM I awoke to a sore throat. Of course the first thing that went out the window was my 3-4 bike rides per week. I haven't ridden in over a month and before that very, very erratically through 2013 and of no great distance.

So as I bid good riddance to the particularly bad year of 2013 (at least for me), I really hope to get back to where I was. Im not talking about weight, I have kept the weight off for the most part, Im talking about re-finding the passion that I had for riding. I rode back to back centuries and just loved riding.

Here's to better years and especially 2014.

rideorglide 12-22-13 05:30 PM

Recover from a herniated neck; just be well enough to ride.

Maybe invest in a bike with a much taller stem or switch my already high stem to an even taller adjustable.
Something so I can ride longer in more comfort.

Me too. This will be my third year and is the only organized ride I'll do all year. If you start out early from Turtle Rock (4 a.m.), the sunrise at the top of Monitor Pass a couple hours later is a quite a sight.

My goals for 2014:

Race mtn bike for the first time ever
Finish Death Ride in under 10 hours
Move up in CX racing from the entry level C to the B group (one hour races)
10,000 miles and 400,000 ft of climbing
Drop another 30 lbs to get down to 170.

I want to get back into running. I was actually getting pretty quick, ESPECIALLY for a big guy, but then I let life get in the way of training.

I want to be more consistent with my riding and training in general. I have too many peaks and valleys.

I want to do a good long tour. Thinking maybe East to West across the state or possibly South to North from Key West if I'm feeling particularly ambitious.

Finally, I want to get back to racing. I'm very competitive and I feel like the racing was driving my training and kept me ambitious and working hard. Not racing let me get lackadaisical and that has led to some minor weight gain.

tiger187126 12-22-13 09:06 PM

i want to ride a 35 mile charity ride this spring. got a lot to do to get there.

i don't know how many miles i should expect to ride, this year saw me away from my bike for the majority of it, but i would like to get in at least 1000.

jsigone 12-22-13 11:38 PM

Mine are pretty simple, don't crash my bike too hard, don't get burnt out, find new road on my new adventure bike and most important is continue enjoying watching my baby girl grow. She'll be one in a couple weeks. Truly amazing how fast time flies by!

Bonus will be able to keep my streak up of 1-2 centuries a month that I've been on since July

Beachgrad05 12-23-13 12:39 AM

Weight: under 200
miles: 4500-5000 *hoping to reach 4000 in 2013 but may just miss
elevation climbed: 130,000
Get job and hopefully be able to commute by bike

Ataru074 12-23-13 05:55 AM

weight: under 190 ( ideally under 180 )
miles: 3600 ( I should aim for at least 5000 but I don want to set a depressing bar )
a couple of "biking excursion" in colorado.

airwulf 12-23-13 07:21 AM

1. Retire on 1-31-14
2. Buy Giant Anyroad 2
3. Log 1500+ miles
4. Enjoy all the above

Myosmith 12-23-13 09:23 AM

Weight: < 190 by June 1 and maintain
Miles: > 3,000+
Tour de Cure: 100 mi and $1,000 +
MS 100: 100 mi and $1,000 +

Log at least a century a month from April through November
Complete a century in under 6 hrs rolling time
Complete an organized gravel century (either the Almanzo or the Woodchipper) I had to take a bail out route home last year in my first attempt
Purchase and/or build a hardtail 29er MTB and start riding the single track through the sandhills and lakes region at least a couple of times a month
Eliminate 90+% of the junk food from my diet and increase the amount of vegetables and high quality proteins
Increase cross training to balance lower body strength, increase core and upper body strength, and improve balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance and VO2 Max.

I plan to ride more.....a lot more.

Also, I plan to finally give drop-bars a try. I just need to get some V-brake compatible road bar brake levers and I'm good to go. My first test was fat tires and they work for me. Once I decide between MTB and road bars, I'll start planning a custom frameset build.

My test vehicle for fat-tires and in the near future, drop-bars:

Cherish the time, it goes way to fast.
You hold and feed them, next thing you know you are walking them to school (not because you are in the same grade!) then comes guys that want to take them out. (Son, I love her to death and I have no issues with going BACK to prison, be home by 9 right?)
