Hmmm, biking and ED for men?

Just saw this on AOL, cycling more than 3 hours per week can cause ED... Depending on the type of saddle you have can reduce this side effect...

Is this a ploy by the high end saddle manufactures to sell more saddles? BTW, just in case, any saddle recommendations?

Here's the link to the article..

Nope, The studies have been replicated over the years.

There are ways to reduce the risk. Most involve fit and proper (for you) saddles.

LOL!! Protecting your "what-what"...

Not really looking for a recumbent right now..but I'll make sure my fit & saddle is dialed in properly...

Thought you'd like it- it's a funny commercial. ;)

No worries, just offering alternatives.

wouldn't riding 3 hrs a week lead to weight loss and improved cadiovascular health thus improving "function"?

Marriage leads to reduced efficiency too.

Don't ask me how I know.

A steady diet of lobster eventually leaves one craving for a bologna sandwich.

No.

Yes, but.

Get a good, or very good saddle. Make sure the fit is right, and especially its angle. Me, I've settled on Specialized Romin Pros, with the wider nose and the carbon rails. Yes, they are $150+. Second best is a charge spoon. $35. Again, for me.

Also: move. A bike is something you perch on, not a vehicle you ride in. Move forward to add lots of power, perch in the middle to coast, push against the back to climb. lift and move forward to accelerate and climb, lift and move back when braking. Repeat. A lot. Significantly reduces time and pressure on bits.

Oh, and there's no doubt a good set of bibs is crucial.

Remember also that circulation and flexibility will improve markedly. MY doc says my circulation is better than most 25 years olds he sees. I'm 43.

One classic study of more than 1,700 men found that those who rode a bike more than three hours a week had higher rates of ED than those who rode less often. In fact, the research found that less-frequent cycling couldprevent ED. The culprit, later research from the University of California, San Diego showed, may be the bicycle seat. A hard seat can compress the perineum (the area between the anus and scrotum), squeezing off the vital arteries and nerves necessary for normal sexual function. Bike riders bear weight directly on the area where the nerves and arteries enter the penis.
Obviously a fit and saddle choice problem. Weight should be borne by the sit bones (the two prominences at the bottom of the pelvis) not the perineum or other soft tissues.

Forty Years, 5-10 hours riding per week, no problem.

This. For me. Saddle choice is extremely important, to be sure, but the aforementioned has always made the biggest difference in performance. For me.
