It IS a happy New Year!
 
One year ago today I weighed 249 Lbs., this morning I stepped on the scale and it says 212 so I weighed myself 5 more times to make sure. 212 every time. I lost 40 Lbs. in 3 months several years ago but had put every pound back on within 6 months. With the lifestyle changes I have made the past couple of years I feel very good about being able to lose a few more Lbs. and keeping the weight off this time. My goal was 215 by Christmas and to maintain that through the holidays, the year of my big weight loss Thanksgiving and Christmas were my undoing. Our family dinners always had too much food and I always had too little self control. Since then our family holiday dinners have scaled way back and my self control has greatly increased. I have been able to make it through the recent holidays without gaining weight and this year I have been able to actually maintain a gradual weight loss. My new goal is 198 by June 20th, our wedding anniversary, and then to never let myself get above that again. It hasn't been easy but is HAS been worth it. :D

You've lost a lot of weight! It's the lifestyle change that keeps it off.

It makes a lot of difference on climbs, I'm sure you've noticed. That's a good reason to keep it off and lose a few more pounds!

Congrats, I to had a good year last year as I went from 300 in June to 220 as of the end of November. It does indeed take a lifestyle change as far as eating habits go. I had always exercised and lifted weights before the change in eating habits but just ate like crap. As you said it sure is not easy but it really is worth it! I tell myself every day that Ill never go back to that size and so far so good. Congrats on almost 20 years of marriage as well, I know how hard that can be and Im only coming up on 9!

True! This exclusive club has a scale on the entrance door that will only open if you hit 200# of more! :)

Congrats on the weight loss. You must feel great. I am no longer a Clyde having started at 217# July 2012 now down to 165# and I have to tell you I feel fantastic. Keep up the good work :thumb:

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling pretty good and dropping that weight has really helped my knees.

Well, I'm 6' 1-1/2" so if we go by height I can still be in the club. ;)

Tell us all what your lifestyle choice changes were...

i'm 6'2 @239 now, aiming for 222lbs or less. dropped 55lbs this year from my max, and 43 from when I 'got serious' back in early July 2013.

I expect the next 17lbs to go much slower but thats okay, I have time and a plan.

#1 I got back on my bike! After that I cut out almost all carbonated beverages, potato chips, etc. I still have an occasional beer or ale but a six pack usually lasts me a month or longer. I try to be more active, I use the bike for errands instead of the car. I use the push mower more instead of the riding mower. My wife and I have cut way back on eating out and she has been making us fruit and vegetable smoothies and fixing more fresh vegetable dishes, with that change in diet junk foods don't even taste good any more so we've stopped eating those and I don't snack in the evenings like I used to.

I realized yesterday looking in the mirror that I'm only 4 Lbs. from my low weight of a few years ago. At that time I lost the weight very quickly and the appearance change was very noticeable to me and to everyone else. people were constantly commenting on it and I may have become self-conscious. I thought I looked too thin, the first 40 years of my life I had always been skinny, too thin really. I was kind of enjoying being a "big guy" for the first time in my life, even if I wasn't in good shape. I didn't want to be that thin again and maybe that's why I wasn't able to stay with it and ended up putting the weight back on. This time it's very different, since the weight loss has been gradual I have had time to adjust to my appearance and do not feel too thin. I realize I still have weight to lose and what seemed like a ridiculously low weight back then seems perfectly reasonable now. Does that make any sense? I also had a life altering experience shortly before joining here and came very near death very suddenly. If it hadn't been my wife's day off I wouldn't be here today! I survived with no long term affects and accepted the wake up call that I couldn't continue living the way I had been. I had already decided it was time to dust off the bike but that gave it a new found urgency.
