It's gravy from here, but MIGHT try for the Gran Fondo challenge. That's definitely a lot longer than I've done so far, so it's possibly a bridge too far.

Great! you made the prove it! I was thinking about the Gran Fondo also but, with the wind as you have said...100 miles with wind is miserable and I like to enjoy my rides. I am going to hit over 600km this week also.[/QUOTE]

Thanks!

And you're even local to me, so I guess all too familiar with the lovely winds.

I was pretty excited about the prove it; it'll be double my miles any month of last year, even if I don't do the Gran Fondo (though trying to get S14 -> 217 sounds fun, if a bit of climbing). I still can't find a decent way from Central and Tramway down to the Bosque to do the 'cheater' run on the flats.

IBOHUNT -- thanks for the support. If I don't ski and the winds calm, I might try for the Gran Fondo this weekend.

ExpatBrit, I usually ride solo but, if you want to coordinate a ride this weekend I am game. I can't send PM's in this forum as I am too new...I orginate in the Lomas Tramway area.

<THREADJACK>

I'm solo all the time as well, and not sure I'm riding this weekend. MIGHT try and get in a ski day. I'm just down the road from you in Four Hills, though, so I'm up and down Tramway several times a week, though the times are erratic around the work day. (Got to love being a telecommuter).

Hunt me down on Strava if you want; Charlie W in Albuquerque.

</THREADJACK>

Good luck with hitting the 600km!

8 days left for the month, 3 hours from 24 hour goal...

Count: 18 Activities
Time: 21:00:00 h:m:s
Distance: 346.78 mi
Kjoules: 14,308

I want to ride outside, but -20F forecast for the beginning of the week probably means it won't be nice until August.

I imagine I'll hit 400 trainer miles for January, and my trainer is slower to match the same effort than the road. I don't know if I've broken 400 real miles in a month in my life.

Well. I'm slow, so it'd have been more than 4.5 hours -- as well as 60% uptick on my highest mileage yet. I got in a near metric century, though, fueled by cola haribo and will update

1/2 -- 21.8 miles, 945'
1/3 -- 25.1 miles, 1453'
1/4 -- 46.8 miles, 1654' (should have eaten on this one; last hill before home was tough!)
1/6 -- 21.6 miles, 935' and in the low 30s. Clingfilm wrapping my toes in my shoes!
1/7 -- 21.6 miles, 938', also cold and no I have no cold weather gear.
1/9 -- 21.6 miles, 938'. Weather warmed up and ran it as a tempo ride.
1/10 -- 20.2 miles, 1322'. Don't ride up a canyon in gusty weather when you've got to get back to work for a con call. Just sayin'.
1/11 -- 38.7 miles, 3494'. Testing myself, my gearing, and my nutrition on some longer climbs. Fun stuff.
1/12 -- 20.3 miles, 1893'. Wicked, wicked windy, so confined myself to more sheltered areas and some climbing

1/18 -- 32.8 miles, 2605'. Had to get over 500km.

1/20 -- 23.7 miles, 1257'

I'm at 199 month so far all inside. Decided to to the Tour of Sufferlandria so will be on the trainer for the next 7 days. Not long rides but pretty intense.
Looking forward to increasing the miles month by month and looking forward to getting back on the road.

Missed a few days of good riding weather but I had to work a few unscheduled days. I'm going to try to make up for it this week. It's been really foggy the last few days which makes for eerie riding.

January 4 -14.23km

second ride today - 8km
January 6 - 25km
January 10 - 19.7km
January 23 - 13.7km
January 25 - 14 km
January 26 - 25 km

MTD -153.7 km

I didn't list a mileage goal this month, but just realized I'm at 18 rides this month and almost 400 miles. Weather is crappy the next two nights so will probably get one more ride in this month.

Nice! That was my target and I just scraped it; the next few days the winds are supposed to be up (more) and then snow, frozen mix, and general crap. Can't complain, since we've had such a good January.

Might squeeze in another couple of rides; hopefully today.

1/13 -- 16.2 miles, 827'.
1/17 -- 26.2 miles, 1512'. Back from the work trip
1/18 -- 32.8 miles, 2605'. Had to get over 500km.
1/19 -- 21.5 miles, 935' -- time for the standard cruise at a nice moderate HR
1/20 -- 23.7 miles, 1257'
1/21 -- 20.5 miles, 883'. Was trying the REI Novara Tempest tights, and /hated/ them. Need to find something more built for me.
1/24 -- 21.2 miles, 938'
1/25 -- 61.2 miles, 1729' -- longest ride ever, and kept it nice and flat.
1/27 -- 20.2 miles, 880' -- Midday spin
1/28 -- 19.4 miles, 880' -- fighting headwinds all the way out, but got a nice clip coming home: http://www.strava.com/activities/109609737

MTD: 500.9 miles, 26,050' of climbing.

This is almost 50% of my mileage from last year (though I didn't start cycling until the end of July), so I'm pretty happy!

Not that you're far behind me -- probably helps that you live pretty much around the corner. Hard to ride ANYWHERE around here without heading up hills.

Sure it'll drop off as the weather warms up and I can start to do some longer motorbike rides and track day season starts up.

Some of it is the new bike (though that was the same last year; first time I'd had a bike in almost a decade in July, though I had a rather small 21" frame Kona Caldera that I traded in on the girl's bike in the garage). The MUCH stiffer road bike does make some of the climbs easier (either that or the engine MAGICALLY improved).

A lot of it is the Strava challenge, some of it is trying to beat my little brother back in the UK, and a big chunk is seeing what people in this thread are doing. Regardless of the 'How to be a Road Biker' video, I love being able to see what people are doing and to believe that I can post competitive miles. There's a hell of a lot of inspiration in seeing how people are laying down the miles.

Nice miles; even nicer weight-loss!

yah I hear ya, I did the strava's Rapha 500 right before the new yrs and felt the sickness grabbing hold on the last couple day. Been down in the dumps since and trying to limit the fitness loss but rest and family time is good. I put a carrot out there in front of me, signed up for my first crit race this sunday.....see how my form is n all.

About the head out for my lunch ride right now

I'm in for 100 miles. On an exercise bike... for the month of February. I figure I can get in 9 miles in half hour time slots, 4 days a week. In case i miss a day or it gets nice enough out to walk, or enough snow to snowshoe, I'll shoot low Exercise bike is boring, after all. But, once I hit about 12 minutes, its easy sailing from there!

Today was only my 3rd day on it, however, for this year. I slacked a bit! Also started using myfitnesspal app again. Its so easy to use, I don't know why I stopped. I could have probably lost my goal of 25lbs long before now had I kept using it...

3 degree wind chill so I ran 5.5 miles outside then spent another 90 minutes on the trainer. I can't wait until this weather is out of here. Way(!) too much time inside on the trainer

Jan:
Running: 49 miles/ 3,061' gain
Riding: 76 mi / 3,934' gain
Trainer: 649 mi (36hr 03min)
